Size 6 Months to 1 Year and Size 1 to 2 Years

Instructions are written for size 6 months to 1 year, change for size 1 to 2 years are in parentheses.

Materials—Fleisher’s Baby Zephyr, 4-fold, Pullover 4 balls, Pants 3 balls.

White Knitting Needles, 1 pair each Sizes 2 and 3.
White Crochet Hook, Size 2.

Gauge: 13 sts = 2 inches; 9 rows = 1 inch

Pullover

Measurements—Chest 20 (21) ins. Length from lower edge to back of neck 10 ¾ (11 ¾) ins. Sleeves—Width 7 ½ (8) ins.

Back—With size 2 needles, cast on 64 (68) sts. Work k 2, p 2 ribbing for 1 ½ ins. With size 3 needles, work stockinette st, k 1 row, p 1 row, for 5 ¼ (6) ins., or desired length to underarm.

Armholes—Bind off 3 sts at beginning of next 2 rows for underarm; 58 (62) sts. Work even until 3 ¼ (3 ½) ins. above underarm, end with p row.

Shoulders—Bind off 16 (18) sts for shoulder, k until 26 sts on needle, slip on holder, bind off 16 (18) sts.

Front—Work same as back.

Right Sleeve—With size 2 needles, cast on 34 sts.

First row—right side—K 2, * p 2, k 2; repeat from * to end.

2nd row—P 2, * k 2, p 2; repeat from * to end. Repeat these 2 rows 5 times.

13th row—Work 16 sts in ribbing, inc. 1 st in each of next 2 sts, work 16 sts in ribbing; 36 sts. Change to size 3 needles.

Pattern—First row—wrong side—P 14, k 2, p 4, k 2, p 14.

2nd row—K 14, p 2, slip next 2 sts to crochet hook, hold at back of work, k next 2 sts, k 2 sts from hook—cable twist—p 2, k 14.

3rd row—Same as first row.

4th row—K 14, p 2, k 4, p 2, k 14. Repeat 3rd and 4th rows once; repeat first row again.

8th row—Inc. 1 st in first st, k 13, p 2, work cable twist on next 4 sts, p 2, k 12, inc. 1 st in next st, k 1; 38 sts. Repeat cable twist row and inc. 1 st each side every 6th row 6 (8) times more; 50 (54) sts. Continuing cable twist every 6th row, work even until 6 ½ (7 ¾) ins. above ribbing, or desired length to armhole, end with 2nd row above a twist row. Bind off 21 (23) sts at beginning of next 2 rows.

Shoulder Inserts—Continue cable pattern on remaining 8 sts for 2 ½ (2 ¾) ins., end with first (3rd) row above a twist row. Slip 8 sts on holder, break yarn. Make left sleeve like right sleeve but do not break yarn.

Sew edges of right shoulder insert to right back and front shoulder edges. Sew front edge of left insert to front shoulder edge, back edge to back shoulder for 6 sts from armhole edge.

Neck Ribbing—Place sts of back neck, right insert, front neck and left insert on size 2 needles; 68 sts.

First row—right side—P 2, k 2 tog twice, p 2, * k 2, p 2; repeat from * 6 times, k 2 tog twice, p 2, k 2 to end; 64 sts. Work ribbing for 5 more rows. Bind off in ribbing. Do not break yarn. Work 15 (17) sc on back edge of left shoulder opening for 2 rows for underlap. Beginning at seam, work 15 (17) sc on insert edge of opening.

2nd row—Ch 1, turn, 1 sc in first sc, * ch 2 for buttonloop, skip 2 sc, 1 sc in each of next 3 sc; repeat from * once, ch 2, skip 2 sc, 1 sc in each remaining st. Fasten off.

Finishing—Sew sleeves to armhole edges. Sew underarm seams. Steam.

PANTS

Measurements—Width of pants 22 ½ (23 ½) ins. around. Length of back from crotch t top of ribbing 10 ½ (11 ½) ins.

Front—With size 2 needles, cast on 62 (66) sts.

First row of ribbing—wrong side—K 2, * p 2, k 2; repeat from * to end.

2nd row—P 2, * k 2, p 2; repeat from * to end. Repeat these 2 rows twice.

Beading row—K 2, * p 2, yo, k 2 tog; repeat from * to end. Work ribbing for 6 rows.

Inc. row—right side—* P 2, inc. 1 st in each of the next 2 sts, p 2 *; k 50 (54); repeat between *’s once; 66 (70) sts. Change to size 3 needles.

Pattern—First row—K 2, p 4, k 2, p to within 8 sts of end; k 2, p 4, k 2.

2nd row—* P 2, slip next 2 sts to crochet hook, hold at back of work, k next 2 sts, k 2 sts from hook—cable twist--p 2 *; k to within 8 sts of end, repeat between *’s once.

3rd row—Same as first row.

4th row—P 2, k 4, p 2, k to within 8 sts of end, p 2, k 4, p 2. Repeat 3rd and 4th rows once. Repeat these 6 rows of pattern once. Repeat first row again.

14th (inc.) row—P 2, work cable twist on next 4 sts, p 2, inc. 1 st in next st, k to within 10 sts of end, inc. 1 st in next st, k 1, p 2, work cable twist, p 2. Continue to work cable twist every 6th row and repeat ins. row every 12th row 4 times; 76 (80) sts. Continue cable pattern until 8 (9) ins. from ribbing or desired length to crotch, end with 4th row above a twist row (end with a twist row).

Dec. and dividing row—K 2, p 2 tog twice, k 2, p 22 (24), slip these 28 (30) sts on holder for leg ribbing; p 16 for crotch, p 22 (24), k 2, p 2 tog twice, k 2, slip last 28 (30) sts on holder for other leg. Break yarn. Take up 16 sts of crotch, join yarn and k 1 row, p 1 row for 6 rows. Slip these sts on holder. Break yarn, leaving a 14-in. end for weaving.

Back—Work ribbing and beading row for 13 rows as on front. Change to size 3 needles. K 1 row; 62 (66) sts.

First short row—P 44 (46).

2nd row—Turn. Slip 1, k 29.

3rd row—Turn, slip 1, p 28, with point of right needle take up st directly below slipped st and slip it to left needle, p this st together with slipped st to prevent hole, p 4.

4th row—Turn, slip 1, k 32, take up and k st directly below slipped st together with slipped st, k 4.

Note—Always work slipped sts as in last 2 rows. Work 5 more short rows, slipping first st and working 4 sts more every row.

10th rows—Turn, slip 1, k to end.

11th row—P all sts; 62 (66) sts. Work stockinette st for 12 rows.

Inc. row—Inc. 1 st in first st, k to within 2 sts of end, inc. 1 st in next st, k 1. Repeat inc. row every 12th row 4 times more; 72 (76) sts. Work even until there are same number of rows on side edges as on front, end with k row.

Dividing row—P 28 (30), slip on holder, p 16, slip on holder for crotch, p 28 (30), slip on holder. Break yarn. Weave crotch sts of front and back together. With size 1 needle, take up 28 (30) sts of left side of back, join yarn, working from right side, k these sts, pick up and 4 sts on crotch edge, take up 28 (30) sts of front, k 22 (24), p 2, k 2, p 2; 60 (64) sts. Work k 2, p 2 ribbing for 6 rows. Bind off in ribbing. Work ribbing on right leg to correspond.

Finishing—Sew side seams. Steam.

Cord—With 2 strands of yarn, ch 34 ins. Fasten off.
