MATERIALS
BERNAT Nylo Germantown (2 oz. skeins) — 6(6-7)
1 pair straight knitting needles No. 10 OR ANY SIZE NEEDLES WHICH WILL GIVE THE STITCH GAUGE GIVEN BELOW
1 aluminum crochet hook No. 4/E
5 buttons
GAUGE: 4 sts =1 inch; 6 rows = 1 inch
BACK: Cast on 61(65-69) sts. Work even in seed st until piece measures 3 inches. On the next row inc 1 st each end of needle and repeat this inc every 1 inch 4 times more. Work even in seed st on 71(75-79) sts until piece measures 8(8-8½) inches. SHAPE ARMHOLES: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 5(6-6) sts. Dec 1 st each end of needle every other row 3 times. Work even on 55(57-61) sts until armholes measure 7½(7¾-8) inches. SHAPE SHOULDERS: At the beg of each of the next 4 rows bind off 6 sts. At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 6(7-8) sts. Bind off remaining 19(19-21) sts.
LEFT FRONT: Cast on 39(41-43) sts. Work even in seed st until piece measures 3 inches. On the next row at arm edge inc 1 st and repeat this inc every 1 inch 4 times more. Work even in seed st on 44(46-48) sts until piece measures 8(8-8½) inches. SHAPE ARMHOLE: At arm edge bind off 5(6-6) sts. Dec 1 st at same edge every other row 3 times. Work even in seed st on 36(37-39) sts until armhole measures 5¾(6-6¼) inches. SHAPE NECK: At front edge bind off 12(12-13) sts once and 2 sts 3 times. Work even on 18(19-20) sts until armhole measures 7½(7¾-8) inches. SHAPE SHOULDER: At arm edge bind off 6 sts twice and 6(7-8) sts once.
RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond to left front, reversing all shaping and forming first buttonhole when piece measures ½ inch. BUTTONHOLE: Starting at front edge, work 2 sts, bind off the next 4 sts, work to end of row. On the next row cast on 4 sts over those bound off previous row. Make 4 more buttonholes, evenly spaced — the last one to be made ½ inch below start of neck shaping.
SLEEVES: Cast on 41(43-45) sts. Work even in seed st for 3 inches. P the next row to form hemline and continue in seed st until piece measures 6 inches. On the next row inc 1 st each end of needle and repeat this inc every 2 inches 4 times more. Work even on 51(53-55) sts until piece measures 16(16-16½) inches. SHAPE CAP: At the beg of each of the next 2 rows bind off 5(6-6) sts. Dec 1 st each end of needle every other row 5(6-7) times and every 4th row 4 times. At the beg of each of the next 6 rows bind off 2 sts. Bind off remaining sts.
COLLAR: Cast on 19(19-21) sts. Working in seed st, at the beg of each of the next 6 rows cast on 6 sts. Work even on 55(55-57) sts until piece measures 2½ inches. On the next row dec 1 st each end of needle and repeat this dec every row twice more. Bind off remaining 49(49-51) sts.
FINISHING: Sew underarm, shoulder and sleeve seams. Set in sleeves. Sew cast on edge of collar to neck edge to within 1 inch of each front edge. Work 1 row s c around collar, on fronts and around lower edge of jacket and cuffs. Turn up sleeves on hemline to form cuffs. Block. Finish buttonholes. Sew on buttons.
