Lincoln Afghan Pattern #6610

Size—About 48 x 72 inches

This Afghan was a great favorite with the Pioneers of our country. They used any yarn, any color, and any weight to make this comfortable coverlette. They knitted two strands together in the light weight yarn, and worked alternate rows of color in some of the squares to use up all the odds and ends of the different colors.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

MINERVA MILADY KNITTING YARN (4 ounce skeins)
14 Skeins—Assorted Colors
3 Skeins—Black
—OR—
MINERVA AFGHAN GERMANTOWN (2 ounce skeins)
26 Skeins—Assorted Colors
5 Skeins—Black

MINERVA ATHENA NONINFLAMMABLE NEEDLES—1 Pr. Size 4—10 inch

GAUGE: Knitting Yarn—5 Sts. to 1 inch
Afghan Germantown—5½ Sts. to 1 inch

1 No. 2 STEEL CROCHET HOOK

TO MAKE A SQUARE:

MINERVA MILADY KNITTING YARN—Cast on 30 Sts. and K. 54 rows (27 ribs) to form 6 inch square. Bind off.
MINERVA AFGHAN GERMANTOWN—Cast on 33 Sts. and K. 60 rows (30 ribs) to form 6 inch Square. Bind off.
Make 96 Squares. With Black, sew or crochet together, 8 squares wide and 12 squares long.

BORDER:

ROW 1—With Black work 1 row of S.C. all around Afghan, increasing at corners.
ROW 2—Work 3 D.C. in every 3rd S.C., increasing at corners.
