Knitting Needles: One "Boye" circular Size 5 — 24-inch and one crochet hook Size E
Gauge: 6 sts to 1 inch; 17 rows to 2 inches
Skirt: Cast on 352(360-362-368-370). Join, being careful not to twist sts. Mark beg of rows.
Note: Instructions are for a 34¾(35¼-35¼-35¾-35¾) inch dress measured from lower edge to shoulder. To lengthen or shorten make adjustment before first dec row. K around in St St for 2 inches. Place 4 dart markers as follows: K 44(45-45-46-46), place marker, K 88(90-91-92-93), place marker, K 88(90-90-92-92), place marker, K 88(90-91-92-93), place marker, K 44(45-45-46-46). Sl markers every row.
Dec Row: * K to 4 sts before marker, K 2 tog through back loops, K 4, K 2 tog through front, repeat from * 3 times more, K to end — 8 decs. Repeat dec at markers every 1¾ (1¾-1¾-1¾-2) inches 4(4-4-6-5) times, every inch 3(3-4-1-1) times then every ½ inch 14(14-12-13-13) times. Dress measures about 19(19-19- 19½- 19) inches from start. Work on the 176(184-194-200-210) sts to 22 inches.
Inc Row: * K to 3 sts before marker, inc 1 in next st, K 3, inc 1 in next st, repeat from * 3 times more, K to end. Repeat incs every 6th row 3(3-3-4-4) times more. Remove dart markers. Work on the 208(216-226-240-250) sts to 26 inches from start. Width at bustline is 34¾(36-37¾-40-41¾) inches.
Being sure to start at beg of row, bind off 104(108-113-120-125) sts for back, place a marker, bind off rem'ing 104(108-113-120-125) sts for front. Do not break yarn.
Yoke: Gauge: 5 shells to 3 inches 3 rows to 1 inch On right side, crochet 85(91-94-100-103) sc to side marker — about 5 sc to 6 sts. Ch 3 to count as first dc, turn. Work in pat:
Row 1 — Wrong side: 1 dc in first sc for half shell, * skip 2 sc, 3 dc in next sc for shell, repeat from * across, end 2 dc in last sc for half shell, ch 3, turn.
Row 2: 1 dc in space between first and 2nd dc, * 3 dc in space between 2nd and 3rd dc of next shell, repeat from * across, end 2 dc between last 2 dc. There are 27(29-30-32-33) shells with half shell at each side. Width across is 17(18-18¾-20-20¾) inches. Do not ch, turn.
Armholes: Sl st across half shell and next 2(2-2-5-5) dc, ch 3, 1 dc in space before next dc for half shell, work in pat to last 5(5-5-8-8) dc, 2 dc between first and 2nd dc of next shell, ch 3, turn. 1(1-1-2-2) shells bound-off at each side.
Row 2: Skip half shell, counting ch-3 as first dc work shell in next shell, work to last shell, 2 dc in last shell, 1 dc in turning-ch, ch 3, turn.
Row 3: Starting with half shell, work in pat across, end with half shell in turning ch.
Repeat Rows 2 and 3 once more. There are 21(23-24-24-25) shells with half shell at each side. Continue in pat, ch'ing 3 and turning after each row, work to 5(5-5½-5½-6) inches above start of yoke, end on wrong side. Width across is 13½(14½-15¼-15¼-15¾) inches.
Back Opening: Work 10(11-11-11-12) full shells, 2 dc in next shell, ch 3, turn. Continue to work on the 10(11-11-11-12) full shells with half shell at each side to about 7(7¼-7½-7¾-7¾) inches above underarm, end at side edge, turn, do not ch.
Shoulder: Sl st across 11(13-13-13-15) dc, work to end, ch 3, turn. Work 4½ shells, fasten off.
Sizes 10(18) Only: On right side, join yarn in last shell at center back.
Sizes 12(14-16) Only: On right side, skip center shell, join yarn in next shell.
All Sizes: Ch 3, 1 dc in same space, work across 10(11-11-11-12) shells with half shell at each side. Work to correspond to other side of back.
Front: On right side, starting at marker and omitting back opening, work same as back yoke to 5½(6-6-6½-6½) inches above start of yoke, end on right side, ch 3, turn.
Neck: Work across half shell and 8(9-9-9-10) full shells, ch 2, turn. Dec half shell at neck edge every row 4 times. If necessary, work on the 20(23-23-23-26) dc to match back armhole end at neck edge. Work across 9(10-10-10-11) dc, fasten off. Leaving 5(5-6-6-5) shells free at center front, join yarn in next shell, ch 3, work 2 dc in same space. Finish to correspond to other side.
Sleeves: Ch 56(59-62-65-68).
Row 1: 1 sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each rem'ing ch - 55(58-61-64-67) sc. With 17(18-19-20-21) full shells and half shell at each side, work in pat for 3 rows. Width across sleeve is 11(11½-12¼-12¼-13¼) inches.
Sleeve Cap: Sl st across first half shell and 2(2-2-5-5) dc, ch 3, 1 dc in space before next dc for half shell, work in pat to last 5(5-5-8-8) dc, 2 dc between first and 2nd dc of next shell. Dec half shell each side every other row 1(1-1-3-3) times then every row until 13(12-13-12-13) dc rem. Fasten off.
Edging: On right side, starting at side crochet about 5 sc to every 6 sts at hemline - 297(303-306-312-315) sc around. Join with sl st to first sc, Do Not Turn.
Row 2: Ch 3 for first dc, working in back loop only and holding back last loop of each dc, work 1 dc in each of next 2 sc, yo and through 3 loops on hook, ch 2, * holding back last loop of each dc, work 1 dc in each of next 3 sc, yo and through 4 loops on hook, ch 2, repeat from * around. Join with sl st, ch 1.
Row 3: * 1 sc in first st, 2 sc in ch-2 space, repeat from * around. Join, ch 1.
Row 4: * Sl st in next st, ch 1, skip 1 sc, repeat from * around, join, fasten. Seam shoulders. On right side, starting at back opening, crochet 1 row of sc around neck and opening, making a ch-3 buttonloop at right back. Fasten off.
Sew in sleeves. Sew sleeve seams, joining edges of yoke at underarm.
