GAUGE: Each square measures 9 inches square when blocked. For a single size spread about 72 x 104 inches, including fringe on 3 sides, make 7 x 11 blocks. For a double size spread about 90 x 104 inches, including fringe on 3 sides, make 9 x 11 blocks.

SQUARE … Cast on 2 sts on each of 4 needles. Join, being careful not to twist sts. 1st rnd: * K into back of next st, O, k into back of next st.    Block to measure 9 inches square. Make necessary number of squares. Sew squares together on wrong side with neat over-and-over stitches.

FRINGE ... Cut 8 strands of thread each 12 inches long. Double these strands forming a loop. Pull loop through a sp on edge of spread and draw ends of fringe through loop; pull tight. Make fringe evenly (in about every other space) along one narrow edge and both long edges of spread. Trim fringe.
