Knitted  Baby Set #204 Pattern

REQUIREMENTS:
YARN: 8-ounces of Knitting Worsted or
8-ounces of Germantown.
NEEDLES: 1-pr. #6 Single Pointed; 1-pr. #4 Single Pointed
HOOK: One bone #1.

BACK: Using the #6 needles cast on 60 sts and work in the following pattern: Row 1: * knit 5 sts, p 1, k 4, p 1, repeat from * across row end with k 5 sts. Row 2: * Purl 5 sts, k 1, p 4, k 1, repeat from * across row, end with p 5 sts. Row 3: * knit 5 sts, p 1, slip the next 2 sts onto a double point needle and hold in back of work; knit the next 2 sts, knit the 2 sts off the dble pt needle; p 1, repeat from * across row, ending with k 5. Row 4: * Purl 5 sts, k 1, p 4, k 1, repeat from * across row, end with p 5 sts. Repeat these 4 rows for the back pattern. Work until the back measures 6½ inches in all. UNDERARM: Bind off 2 sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows. (Once at each side.) Decrease 1 stitch at each side of the work every other row twice. Then work even until the armhole meas­ures 3½ inches above the underarm. Bind off all sts.

RIGHT FRONT: Using the #6 needles cast on 33 sts and work as follows: Row 1: * p 1, k 4, p 1, k 5, repeat from * across ending with k 5 sts. Row 2: * P 5 sts, k 1, p 4, k 1, repeat from * across end with p 4, k 1. Row 3: * P 1, cable on the 4 sts, p 1, k 5, repeat from * across, end with k 5. Row 4: * P 5 sts, k 1, p 4, k 1, repeat from * across, end with p 4, k 1. Repeat these 4 rows for the pattern. Work until the piece measures the same length as the back up to the underarm. UNDERARM BIND OFF: At one side of the work (where the k 5 sts are) bind off 2 sts once; decrease 1 st at the underarm edge every other row twice. Then work even until the armhole measures 2¾ inches above the underarm, ending at the neck edge. NECK SHAPING: Bind off 8 sts once; decrease 1 stitch at the neck edge every other row 4 times. Bind off all sts.

LEFT FRONT: Cast on 33 sts and start off as follows: Row 1: * k 5 sts (underarm edge); p 1, k 4, p 1, repeat from * across row, ending with p 1, k 4, p 1. Row 2: * K 1, p 4, k 1, p 5, repeat from * across row ending with p 5. Row 3: * K 5 sts, p 1, cable on the knit 4 sts; p 1, repeat from * across row. Row 4: * K 1, p 4, k 1, p 5, repeat from * across row ending with p 5. Work the re­mainder of the front to correspond to the right.

SLEEVES: Starting at the cuff and using the #4 needles cast on 36 sts. Work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 2 inches. On the last row of ribbing increase 1 stitch in every 4th stitch across the row. (45 sts.) Now change to the #6 needles and work in the following way: Row 1: K 3 sts, * p 1, k 4, p 1, k 5, repeat from * across row, ending with p 1, k 4, p 1, k 3. Row 2: P 3 sts, * k 1, p 4, k 1, p 5, repeat from * across row, end with p 3. Row 3: Cable on the knit 4 sts as you did on the sweater. Row 4: Repeat row 2. Repeat these 4 rows for the sleeve pattern. Work until the sleeve measures 7½ inches in all. Bind off all sts. Make the other sleeve the same way.

COLLAR: Using the #6 needles cast on 50 sts and work as follows: Row 1: * P 1, k 4, p 1, k 5, repeat from * across row, ending with p 1, k 4, p 1. Row 2: * K 1, p 4, k 1, p 5, repeat from * across row, ending with k 1, p 4, k 1. Row 3: * P 1, cable on the 4 sts, p 1, k 5, repeat from * across row. Row 4: Repeat Row 2. Work for 2½ inches in the pattern. Bind off all sts.

FINISHING: Sew the shoulders; sides and sleeves up and into the armhole matching the underarm seams. CROCHETING: Use the #1 bone hook, tie yarn at the neck edge on the left front and working from the right side of the work, * 1 s c in each of the next 2 rows, skip the next row, repeat from * down to the corner, 2 s c in corner st, 1 s c in each stitch along the bottom of the sweater; 2 s c in corner. Repeat between *'s up right front to corner of neck. 2nd Row: Chain 1, turn; 1 s c in next st, * Chain 2 sts; skip 1 st; 1 s c in next 5 sts; repeat from * all the way down the front to corner, 2 s c in corner, 1 s c in each stitch along bottom of sweater; 2 s c in next corner; 1 s c in each stitch up the left front. Break yarn. Tie angora and work 1 s c in each stitch around sweater. Collar: s c around the collar with yarn for 2 rows. Then 1 row of s c with the angora. Sew onto the sweater.

HOOD: Using the #6 needles cast on 61 sts and work in pattern as on the collar for 6 inches. Then change to the #4 needles and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 1¼ inches. Bind off loosely. Turn back the 1¼ inches of rib­bing and sew the sides down. Using the #4 needles pick up 58 sts along the neck edge and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for an inch. Bind off. Crochet one row of angora along the edge of the ribbing at the roll back.

RIGHT MITTEN: Using the #4 needles and starting at the cuff, cast on 28 sts and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 5 rows. BEADING ROW: K 1, * yarn over, knit 2 sts together, repeat from * across row end with k 2 tog, p 1. Work 5 more rows of ribbing. Now work as follows. Row 1: K 5 sts, p 1, k 4, p 1, k 17 sts. Row 2: P 17 sts, k 1, p 4, k 1, p 5. Row 3: K 5 sts, p 1, slip the next 2 sts onto a dble pt needle and hold in the back of the work; knit the next 2 sts; knit the 2 sts off the dble pt needle, p 1, k 17 sts. Row 4: Repeat row 2. Repeat these 4 rows until the piece measures 2¼ inches from the ribbing. TIP DECREASES: 1st dec: K 1, slip 1, k 1, psso, K 2, p 1, k 4, p 1, k 2 tog, k 2, slip 1, k 1, psso, k 8, k 2 tog, k 1. 2nd Row: P 14, k 1, p 4, k 1, p 4. 3rd Row: K 1, slip 1, k 1, psso, k 6, k 2 tog, k 2, slip 1, k 1, psso, k 6, k 2 tog, k 1. 4th Row: Purl across. 5th row: K 1, slip 1, k 1, psso, k 4, k 2 tog, k 2, slip 1, k 1, psso, k 4, k 2 tog, k 1. 6th Row: Purl across row. Weave sts to­gether and sew up the side of the mitten or bind off sts. Sew across the tip and down the side.

LEFT MITTEN: Work as the right one until you come to the pattern: Row 1: K 17 sts, p 1, k 4, p 1, k 5. Row 2: P 5, k 1, p 4, k 1, p 17. Row 3: K 17, p 1, cable on the knit 4 sts; p 1, k 5. Row 4: Repeat row 2. Work the rest of the mitten the same way.
