Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "DAWN" NYLON or NYLON POMPADOUR or "DAWN" BABY YARN
5 ozs. White or color of your choice.
1 pr. knitting needles No. 1 and No. 2.
1 double pointed needle No. 1.
Steel crochet hook No. 6.
4 small buttons.
1 ½ yds. ¾ inch ribbon.
2 yds. ¼ inch ribbon.
GAUGE: 8 sts = 1 inch.

PATTERN: 1st Row. Purl (P) 2, * yarn over (y o), knit (K) 2 together (tog), K 2, P 1, repeat from * across row ending last repeat with P 2.

2nd Row. K 2, * P 4, K 1 (the y o of previous row counts as 1 st), repeat from * across row ending last repeat with K 2.

3rd Row. P 2, * K 1, y o, K 2 tog, K 1, P 1, repeat from * across row ending with P 2.

4th Row. Repeat 2nd row.

5th Row. P 2, * K 2, y o, K 2 tog, P 1, repeat from * across row ending with P 2.

6th Row. Repeat 2nd row.

Repeat these 6 rows for pattern.

SACQUE

BACK: On No. 2 needles cast on 88 stitches (sts) and K 7 rows. Work even in pattern until work measures 6 ½ inches from beginning ending with the 6th row of pattern.

SHAPE ARMHOLE: Decrease 1 st at each edge every row 9 times. Then repeat 2nd row, cut yarn and place remaining 70 sts on holder.

LEFT FRONT: On No. 2 needles, cast on 52 sts and K 7 rows. Work even in pattern across row to within the last 4 sts, K 4 sts for border. Working the last 4 sts of front border in garter st (K each row) up entire front, work even in pattern until front measures same as back to underarm, ending at side edge.

SHAPE ARMHOLE: Decrease 1 st at side edge every row 9 times. Work 1 row even. Place remaining 43 sts on holder, cut yarn.

RIGHT FRONT: Work same as left front, reversing the shaping.

SLEEVES: On No. 1 needles, cast on 60 sts and work in ribbing of K 1, P 1 for 1 ½ inches, increasing 3 sts evenly spaced on last row of ribbing. Change to No. 2 needles and work even in pattern until sleeve measures 6 inches from beginning ending with the 6th row of pattern.

SHAPE TOP: Decrease 1 st at each end every row 9 times. Place remaining 45 sts on a holder.

YOKE: With right side of work toward you, attach yarn at front edge of right front and work as follows: K 2, y o, K 2 tog (first buttonhole), P 2, K 4, * P 1, K 4, repeat from * to within the last 3 sts, P 1, K 2. Work across sts of one sleeve as follows: K 2, * P 1, K 4, repeat from * to within the last 3 sts, P 1, K 2. Work across sts of back left sleeve and left front in same manner ending with P 2, K 4 at left front edge (246) sts.

2nd Row. K 6, P 4, * K 1, P 4, repeat from * across row to within the last 6 sts, K 6.

3rd Row. K 4, P 2, * K 4, P 1, repeat from * across row to within the last 6 sts, P 2, K 4. Repeat the last 2 rows 3 times, then repeat the 2nd row once.

1st Decreasing Row. K 2, y o, K 2 tog (2nd buttonhole), P 2, K 1, K 2 tog, K 1, * P 1, K 1, K 2 tog, K 1, repeat from * to within the last 6 sts, P 2, K 4. Work 9 rows even on 199 sts in K 3, P 1 ribbing as established.

2nd Decreasing Row. K 2, y o, K 2 tog (3rd buttonhole), P 2, K 2 tog, K 1, * P 1, K 2 tog, K 1, repeat from * across row to within the last 6 sts, P 2, K 4. Work 9 rows even on 152 sts in K 2, P 1 ribbing as established.

3rd Decreasing Row. K 2, y o, K 2 tog (4th buttonhole), P 2, K 2 tog, * P 1, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row to within the last 6 sts, P 2, K 4. Work 5 rows even on 105 sts in K 1, P 1 ribbing as established, bind off tightly in ribbing. With right side of work toward you, attach yarn at front edge and crochet picots around neck edge as follows: * ch 4, sl st in 4th st from hook, skip 2 sts, s c in next st, repeat from * across row, cut yarn. Fasten all ends securely. Sew shaped part of sleeves to front and back of Sacque. Sew sleeve and side seams. Sew buttons in position.

CAP

TURNBACK: Starting at front edge on No. 2 needles cast on 93 sts. K 7 rows. Work even in pattern same as on Sacque until work measures 1 ½ inches from beginning ending with the 6th row of pattern. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1 for 1 ½ inches ending on right side of work. With wrong side of turnback facing, starting with first row work even in pattern for 4 inches, ending with the 6th row of pattern.

SHAPE CROWN: 1st Row. P 2 tog, * K 4, P 1, repeat from * across row ending with P 2 tog.

2nd Row. K 1, * P 4, K 1, repeat from * across row. Repeat the last 2 rows once, omitting P 2 tog at beginning and end of 1st row, but P 1 instead.

1st Decreasing Row. P 1, * K 1, K 2 tog, K 1, P 1, repeat from * across row.

Next Row. * K 1, P 3, repeat from * to end of row.

Next Row. * P 1, K 3, repeat from * to end of row.

Next Row. * K 1, P 3, repeat from * to end of row.

2nd Decreasing Row. P 1, * K 1, K 2 tog, P 1, repeat from * across row.

Next 3 Rows. Work in ribbing as established by last decreasing row.

3rd Decreasing Row. P 1, * K 2 tog, P 1, repeat from * across row.

Next 3 Rows. Work in ribbing as established by last decreasing row.

4th Decreasing Row. P 1, * K 2 tog, repeat from * across row.

5th Decreasing Row. K 1, * P 2 tog, repeat from * across row, cut yarn leaving an 18 inch length. Thread into blunt needle and draw through remaining sts and fasten securely. Sew back seam for 3 inches starting at center of crown. Turn back first 1 ½ inches of pattern. Attach yarn and pick up and K 70 sts around neck edge, working through both thickness of turnback and cap. K 5 rows, bind off. Crochet a row of picots a cross top of turnback same as on Sacque. Finish with ribbon and ties as illustrated.

BOOTIES

With No. 2 needles cast on 43 sts, K 6 rows. Work even in pattern same as on Sacque until work measures 1 ½ inches from beginning ending with 6th row of pattern.

Next Row. BEADING: K 1, * y o, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row.

Next Row. K across row.

Next Row. K 16 and place on a holder, K 11 sts for instep, place remaining 16 sts on another holder. Work in garter st (K each row) on the 11 instep sts for 1 ¾ inches ending on wrong side, place these sts on a double pointed needle, cut yarn leaving an end to fasten. Slip the 16 sts from 1st holder on needle, attach yarn and pick up and K 13 sts on side of instep, K the 11 sts from double pointed needle, pick up and K 13 sts on opposite side of instep, K the 16 sts from 2nd holder (69 sts). K 7 rows.

Next Row. K 30, K 2 tog, K 5, K 2 tog, K 30. K 3 rows even, bind off. Sew back seam.

SOLE: Cast on 22 sts and K 1 row.

Next Row. K across increasing 1 st at beginning and end of row.

Next Row. K across row. Repeat the last 2 rows twice (28 sts). Work 4 more rows even.

Next Row. Decrease 1 st at beginning and end of row. Work 1 row even. Repeat the last 2 rows twice, bind off. Without cutting yarn work a row of s c all around sole working 20 s c on each long side and 12 s c around each end (64 s c), cut yarn. With wrong side of sole and right side of upper section toward you, crochet the upper section and sole together with a row of s c, cut yarn. Crochet a row of picots same as on Sacque around top of bootie. Lace ribbon through beading. Work other bootie in same manner.

MITTENS

With No. 2 needles cast on 38 sts and K 6 rows, then work even in pattern same as on Sacque until work measures 1 ½ inches from beginning ending with the 6th row of pattern.

Next Row. BEADING: K 1, * y o, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row ending with K 1. Work even in stockinette st (K 1 row, P 1 row) for 2 ½ inches ending with a P row.

Next Row. K 2 tog across row. P 1 row.

Next Row. K 2 tog across row, cut yarn leaving an 18 inch length. Draw through remaining sts and fasten securely. Sew seam. Attach yarn at cuff and crochet a row of picots same as on Sacque all around, join, cut yarn.
