Knitted Creeper Pattern #5055

There are some slight differences between versions. Following are both patterns in full.

 

Spool Cotton #138, Woolies for Infants

SIZE 1-2 YEARS

MATERIALS: Chadwick's Red Heart Baby Wool, 2 balls (1 oz. balls) of White and 1 ball of Pink.
Milward's Phantom Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 1 (2½ mm. size) and 1 pair No. 3 (3 mm. size).
A 16-inch circular knitting pin No. 3 (3 mm. size).
Milward's Steel Crochet Hook No. 4.
4 buttons.

Gauge: 8 sts make 1 inch; 10 rows make 1 inch.

Starting at neck, with No. 3 straight needles and White cast on 80 sts. 1st row: Inc. in 1st st, k 1, inc. in next st (seam sts), k 16 (sleeve); inc. in next st, k 1, inc. in next st (seam sts); k 36 (Back); inc. in next st, k 1, inc. in next st (seam sts); k 16 (sleeve); inc. in next st, k 1, inc. in next st (seam sts)—8 sts increased. 2nd row: P across. 3rd row: K 1 (Left Front); inc. in next st, k 1, inc. in next st (seam); k 18 (sleeve); inc. in next st, k 1, inc. in next st (seam); k 38 (Back); inc. in next st, k 1, inc. in next st (seam); k 18 (sleeve); inc. in next st, k 1, inc. in next st (seam); k 1 (Right Front)—8 more sts increased. 4th row: P across. Continue increasing 8 sts each k row until there are 256 sts on needle, ending with a p row. Next row: K 24, place next 62 sts on stitch holder (sleeve); k 84 (Back); place next 62 sts on stitch holder; k 24. Work over these 132 sts for 8 rows. Slip all these sts onto a piece of yarn.

SLEEVES … Transfer 62 sts onto No. 3 Needles; work straight for 2¼ inches. Break off. Attach Pink, change to No. 1 needles and work ¾ inch in ribbing of k 2, p 2. Bind off.

CENTER FRONT BANDS … Holding right side of work toward you, with No. 1 needles and Pink pick up 36 sts along Right Front edge and k 1 row Pink, k 4 rows White; 6 rows Pink; 6 White; 3 Pink. Bind off. Work Left Front in same way.

Divide sts on yarn into 3 sections (Left Front, Back and Right Front), having 84 sts for Back and 24 sts for each Front.

BACK WAISTBAND … Transfer sts of Back onto No. 1 needles and work in ribbing as follows: 3 rows Pink, 2 rows White, 4 rows Pink; 2 White, 3 Pink. Break off.

FRONT WAISTBAND … Holding right side toward you, with Pink k across 24 sts of Right Front, pick up 18 sts across bottom of center front band, pick up 18 sts across bottom of Left Front band and k across 24 sts of Left Front (84 sts). Work to correspond with Back waistband.

Break off. Attach White, transfer the sts of Back and Front onto circular needle (168 sts), and work in rnds; k each rnd for 1 inch. On next rnd inc. 2 sts directly below underarm at both sides (4 sts increased). Continue increasing 4 sts as before every inch, having increases fall over previous ones, until there are 188 sts in the rnd. Work straight for 1 more inch. Divide sts into 2 sections of 94 sts (Front and Back).

BACK … Work over 94 sts, binding off 4 sts at beginning of each row until 54 sts remain. Bind off 3 sts at beginning of each row until 36 sts remain. Bind off 2 sts at beginning of each row until 24 sts remain. Work 10 rows straight. Bind off.

FRONT … Work to correspond with Back.

LEG BANDS … With Pink and No. 1 needles, pick up 90 sts all around leg and work ½ inch in ribbing. Bind off.

NECK BAND … Holding right side toward you, with Pink and No. 1 needles pick up 108 sts around neck edge, including center front bands; work ¾ inch in ribbing. Bind off. Sew up center front band, leaving top free for 2 inches. Make four ch-7 loops close together at top of Right Front opening; sew buttons to correspond. Work 4 rows White s c across crotch at Back and Front (include ribbing). Fasten crotch with 4 snap fasteners. Sew up waistband at sides.
