SIZE 2-3 YEARS

MATERIALS: Chadwick's Red Heart Shetland Floss, 2 balls (1 oz. balls) of any color.
Milward's Phantom Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 4 (3½ mm. size).
2 buttons.

Gauge: 6½ sts make 1 inch; 8½ rows make 1 inch.

BACK … Starting at waistline, cast on 60 sts and work 1½ inches in ribbing of k 1, p 1. To shape back, k 50, turn; p 40, turn; k 30, turn; p 20, turn; k to end of row. On next row p across 60 sts. Work in stockinette st (k 1 row, p 1 row) until piece measures 7 inches. To shape leg, bind off 3 sts loosely at beginning of each row until 12 sts remain. Work 7 rows straight. This completes Back. Work 7 more rows straight and work Front to correspond with Back, casting on 3 sts instead of binding off 3 sts to shape leg. Bind off 10 sts at beginning of next 2 rows.

BIB1st row: With right side toward you (k 1, p 1) 5 times, k 20, (p 1, k 1) 5 times. 2nd row: (P 1, k 1) 5 times, p 20, (k 1, p 1) 5 times. Repeat these 2 rows alternately for 3 inches. Now work entire row in ribbing for 6 rows. Next row: (K 1, p 1) 5 times, bind off 20 sts, and work in ribbing across remaining 10 sts for 12 inches. Then make a buttonhole 4 sts in from edge—to make a buttonhole, on one row bind off 2 sts; on next row cast on 2 sts to replace those bound off. Work 2 rows straight. Bind off. Work over remaining 10 sts to correspond. With right side toward you, pick up 76 sts around leg shaping and work ¾ inch in ribbing. Bind off loosely. Sew up side seams. Sew on buttons 1½ inches in from side seams.
