Kimono Pattern #5052

There are some slight differences between versions. Following are both patterns in full.

 

Spool Cotton #138, Woolies for Infants

INFANT SIZE

MATERIALS: Chadwick's Red Heart Baby Wool, 7 balls (1 oz. balls) of any color.
Milward's Phantom Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 2 (2¾ mm. size).
1 yd. satin ribbon, 1 inch wide.

Gauge: 3 patterns make 2 inches; 10 rows make 1 inch.

BACK … Starting at bottom, cast on 212 sts. 1st row: K 1, k 2 tog., k 1, O, k 1, * O, k 1, sl 1, k 1, p.s.s.o., k 2 tog., k 1, O, k 1. Repeat from * across, ending with O, k 1, sl 1, k 1, p.s.s.o., k 1. 2nd row: P across. Repeat these 2 rows alternately for 6 inches. Then dec. 1 st at both ends of next row and every 3rd row thereafter until 116 sts remain. Work straight until piece measures 21 inches.

TO SHAPE ARMHOLES … Bind off 2 sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Then dec. 1 st at end of each row until 94 sts remain. Work 1¼ inches straight. Work across 1st 36 sts, bind off 22 sts (back of neck), work over remaining 36 sts. Work over these last 36 sts, binding off 2 sts at neck edge every other row until 28 sts remain. Work straight until armhole measures 4¼ inches. Bind off, knitting 2 sts together across. Work opposite side to correspond.

RIGHT FRONT … Cast on 106 sts. 1st row: K 1, k 2 tog., k 1, O, k 1, * O, k 1, sl 1, k 1, p.s.s.o., k 2 tog., k 1, O, k 1. Repeat from * 11 more times, O, k 1, sl 1, k 1, p.s.s.o., (k 1, p 1) 7 times—center front border. 2nd row: P across. Repeat these 2 rows alternately for 6 inches. Dec. 1 st at underarm edge on next row and every 3rd row thereafter until 58 sts remain. Work straight until piece measures 21 inches.

TO SHAPE ARMHOLE … Bind off 2 sts at underarm edge once; then dec. 1 st at armhole edge every other row until 47 sts remain. Work straight until armhole measures 2½ inches. Slip center front border sts onto a safety pin (thus starting neck shaping). Dec. 1 st at neck edge every other row until 28 sts remain. Work straight until armhole measures 4¼ inches. Bind off, knitting 2 sts together across.

LEFT FRONT … Work to correspond with Right Front.

SLEEVES … Starting at wrist, cast on 54 sts and work 1 inch in ribbing of k 1, p 1, increasing 32 sts on last row (86 sts). Work in pattern as for Back for 5½ inches. Bind off 3 sts at beginning of each row until 56 sts remain. Bind off. Sew up shoulder seams.

NECK BAND … Transfer 14 sts of Right Front safety pin onto needle; with right side toward you, pick up 68 sts along neck edge; transfer 14 sts of Left Front safety pin onto needle (96 sts). Work ½ inch in ribbing of k 1, p 1. Bind off tightly.

Sew up underarm and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves. Trim with ribbon.

Infant Size

MATERIALS:
CHADWICK'S RED HEART BABY WOOL, 7 balls (1 oz. balls).
Milward's Phantom Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 4 (3½ mm. size).
1 yd. satin ribbon, 1 inch wide.

GAUGE: 1 pattern (7 sts) makes 1 inch; 9 rows make 1 inch.

BACK … Starting at bottom, cast on 142 sts. 1st row: K 1, k 2 tog., k 1, O, k 1, * O, k 1, sl 1, k 1, p.s.s.o., k 2 tog., k 1, O, k 1. Repeat from * across, ending with O, k 1, sl 1, k 1, p.s.s.o., k 1. 2nd row: P across. Repeat these 2 rows alternately for 6 inches. Then dec. 1 st at both ends of next row and every 4th row thereafter until 80 sts remain. Work straight until piece measures 21 inches.

TO SHAPE ARMHOLES … Bind off 2 sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Then dec. 1 st at end of each row until 66 sts remain. Work 2½ inches straight. Work across 1st 25 sts, bind off 16 sts (back of neck), work over remaining 25 sts. Work over these last 25 sts, binding off 2 sts at neck edge every other row until 19 sts remain. Work straight until armhole measures 4¼ inches. Bind off, knitting 2 sts together across. Work opposite side to correspond.

RIGHT FRONT … Cast on 78 sts. 1st row: K 1, k 2 tog., k 1, O, k 1, * O, k 1, sl 1, k 1, p.s.s.o., k 2 tog., k 1, O, k 1. Repeat from * 7 more times, O, k 1, sl 1, k 1, p.s.s.o., (k 1, p 1) 7 times—center front border. 2nd row: P across. Repeat these 2 rows alternately for 6 inches. Dec. 1 st at underarm edge on next row and every 4th row thereafter until 46 sts remain. Work straight until piece measures 21 inches.

TO SHAPE ARMHOLE … Bind off 2 sts at underarm edge once; then dec. 1 st at armhole edge every other row until 39 sts remain. Work straight until armhole measures 2½ inches in all. Slip center front border sts onto a safety pin (thus starting neck shaping). Dec. 1 st at neck edge every other row until 19 sts remain. Work straight until armhole measures 4¼ inches. Bind off, knitting 2 sts together across.

LEFT FRONT … Work to correspond with Right Front.

SLEEVES … Starting at wrist, cast on 42 sts and work 1 inch in ribbing of k 1, p 1, increasing 23 sts on last row (65 sts). Work in pattern as for Back for 5½ inches. Bind off 3 sts at beginning of each row until 41 sts remain. Bind off. Sew up shoulder seams.

NECK BAND … Transfer 14 sts of Right Front safety pin onto needle; with right side toward you, pick up 46 sts along neck edge; transfer 14 sts of Left Front safety pin onto needle (74 sts). Work ½ inch in ribbing of k 1, p 1. Bind off tightly.
   Sew up underarm and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves. Trim with ribbon.
