MATERIAL:
3 (4-5) skeins Baby Yarn, Orlon Sayelle or Wintuk Baby Yarn (1 oz. skein)
1 pair knitting needles each No. 2 and No. 3
5 (6-6) buttons

GAUGE: 7 sts. = 1 inch

PATTERN: as on Baby Set.

BACK:
Cast on 78 (84-88) sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2 inch. (all sizes). Incr. 4 (5-1) sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 3 needles and pattern. (For size 4 only: Incr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 1 inch twice.) With 82 (89-93) sts. work even until the entire piece measures 7½ (8-9) inch. or any des. length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 5 (6-6) sts., at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts. (all sizes) (68 (73-77) sts. left). Work even for 5¼ (5½-6) inch. from the first binding off. Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 4 (6-4) rows 11 (8-13) sts., rem. 24 (25-25) sts. bind off for neck.

NOTE: For boys work buttonholes in left front border.
For girls work buttonholes in right front border.

LEFT FRONT:
Cast on 47 (47-51) sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2 inch. (all sizes), keeping the 7 center front sts. in garter st. for border throughout the entire front. Incr. 0 (0-3) sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 3 needles and pattern. Incr. 1 st. at armhole edge every 1 inch 0 (3-0) times. With 47 (50-54) sts. work even until the entire piece measures like back to underarm. Bind off at armhole edge at the beg. of the next row 5 (6-6) sts. and at the beg. of the next 2 rows at same edge 2 sts. (38 (40-44) sts. left.). Work even for 3½ (3½-4) inch. from the first binding off. Bind off for neck 10 (10-12) sts. at neck edge and then 2 sts. at same edge every other row until 22 (24-26) sts. are left over. Work as high as back and bind off for shoulder at armhole edge 11 (8-13) sts. 2 (3-2) times.

RIGHT FRONT:
Work as Left Front reversing all shapings and work in 5 (6-6) buttonholes evenly spaced apart in front border starting first buttonhole ½ inch from beg. and last one 4 rows below neckline. (To make a buttonhole: K2, bind off 2 sts., work to end of row. On next row cast on 2 sts. over the 2 bound off sts. of previous row.)

SLEEVE:
Cast on 44 (46-48) sts. with No. 2 needles and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 2 inch. (all sizes). Incr. 3 (1-6) sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 3 needles and pattern. Incr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 6th row until 55 (59-62) sts. are on needle. Work even until the entire sleeve measures 8½ (9½-10½) inch. or any des. length to underarm. Bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 5 (6-6) sts. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. of each row until cap measures 2 (2½-2¾) inch. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 4th row 1 (2-2) times. Bind off 2 sts. at the beg. of the next 4 rows. Bind off rem. sts. Work the other sleeve to correspond.

FINISHING:
Sew up side, shoulder and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves. Neckband: Right side facing you pick up with No. 2 needles 70 (74-78) sts. around the neck and work in ribbing K1, P1 for 6 rows (all sizes). Bind off loosely K as K and P as P. Sew buttons in place and block to size.
