This free pattern originally published by Clark's O.N.T. J&P Coats as Bags, Book 228.

MATERIALS: CHADWICK'S RED HEART KNITTING WORSTED, 3 balls (1 oz. balls) of Skipper Blue and 2 balls of White ... Set of 4 Double-pointed Bone Sock Needles No. 3 (3 mm. size) ... Bone Crochet Hook No. 4 or 5 ... Round cookie carton or candy box, 6 inches in diameter.

GAUGE: 6 sts make 1 inch; 8 rnds make 1 inch.

Starting at top with Blue, cast on 108 sts. Divide these sts among 3 needles. Join, being careful not to twist sts. 1st to 8th rnds incl: * K 9, p 9. Repeat from * around. 9th rnd: * 0, k 2 tog, k 7, 0, p 2 tog, p 7. Repeat from * around. Now repeat 1st rnd until piece measures 4 inches in all. Next rnd: K around. Attach White.

Now work in pattern as follows: Always carry unused color very loosely across back of work. 1st rnd: K 1 White, * k 1 Blue, k 2 White. Repeat from * around, ending with k 1 White. 2nd rnd: K 4 White, * k 1 Blue, k 8 White. Repeat from * around, ending with k 4 White. 3rd rnd: K 3 White, * k 3 Blue, k 6 White. Repeat from * around, ending with k 3 White. 4th rnd: K 2 White, * k 5 Blue, k 4 White. Repeat from * around, ending with k 2 White. These 4 rnds constitute pattern. Work until pattern measures the same as depth of carton. Break off White. K 2 rnds with Blue.

To Shape Bottom: 1st rnd: * K 2 tog, k 7. Repeat from * around. 2nd and 3rd rnds: K around. 4th rnd: * K 2 tog, k 6. Repeat from * around. 5th and 6th rnds: K around. 7th rnd: * K 2 tog, k 5. Repeat from * around. Continue decreasing in this manner every 3rd rnd, having 1 st less between decreases on each decrease rnd, until 12 sts remain. Next rnd: K around. Following rnd: * K 2 tog. Repeat from * around. Break off yarn, leaving a 6-inch length. Thread a needle with this length, run through remaining sts, pull tight and fasten securely on wrong side.

CORD ••• Using a double strand of White, make a chain 1 yard long. Sc in 2nd ch from hook and in each ch across. Break off. Run Cord through openings in ribbing and tie ends in a knot.
