SIZE—Infant.
MATERIALS—SPINNERIN HEAVEN SPUN 13 balls; 1 pair Knitting Needles No. 2; 1 steel Crochet Hook No. 6; 3 yards ¾-inch satin ribbon for ties.
GAUGE—8½ sts. = 1 inch. 12 rows = 1 inch. Accurate gauge is essential.
PATTERN—Multiple of 6 sts. Rows 1, 3, 5—Knit. Row 2 and all even rows—Purl. Row 7—K3, *YO, slip 1, K2 tog., P.S.S.O., YO, K3, repeat from * across row, ending K6. Row 9—K4, *YO, slip 1, K2 tog., P.S.S.O., YO, K3, repeat from * across row, ending K5. Row 11—K5, *YO, slip 1, K2 tog., P.S.S.O., YO, K3, repeat from * across row, ending K4. Row 12—Purl. Repeat these 12 rows throughout for pattern.
AFGHAN—Finished Size 32 inches x 38 inches. Using No. 2 needles, cast on 280 sts. Work in garter stitch, (K every row), dec. 1 st. at the beg. of every row until there are 252 sts. on needle. Work even in pattern given above until work measures approximately 36 inches from start, ending with Row 6 of pattern. Change to garter st., inc. 1 st. at the beg. of every row until there are 280 sts. on needle. Bind off all sts. with wrong side of work toward you.
BORDER—With right side of afghan toward you, pick up approximately 280 sts. along side of afghan, in space between two garter st. borders. Work in garter st., inc. 1 st. at the beg. of every row 28 times, or until there are 308 sts. on needle. Bind off all sts. with wrong side of work toward you. Sew 4 mitered corners together neatly. Work 1 row S. C. around entire afghan. Embroider flowers as shown in illustration.
SACQUE—Cast on 84 sts. Work 10 rows, (5 ribs), in garter st., (knit every row). Then work in pattern given above for 5 complete patterns; (each complete pattern consists of 12 rows). At the beg. of each of the next 8 rows, cast on 12 sts.; (180 sts. on needle). Work even in pattern until there are 8½ patterns from start. Work in pattern over the first 76 sts. and place on st. holder to be worked later for right side of front. Bind off center 28 sts. loosely. On remaining 76 sts., work back and forth in pattern for 8 rows. Inc. 1 st. at neck edge every other row twice. At neck edge, cast on 17 sts.; (95 sts. on needle). Keep 5 sts. at center front in garter st. for border, and remaining sts. in pattern, until there are 11½ patterns from start. At sleeve edge, bind off 12 sts. every 4 times; (47 sts. on needle). Work even in pattern, still keeping the 5 sts. of front border in garter st. until front measures same as back from underarm to border. Work 10 rows, (5 ribs) of garter st. With wrong side of work toward you, bind off all sts.
FINISHING—Sew underarm and sleeve seams. Work 1 row of S. C. around neck of sacque. Fasten off. Tie in yarn at right side seam. Work 1 row of S. C. along bottom edge of sacque, up right front to neck. Then work beading as follows: Ch 5, work 1 D. C. in 2nd S. C. on neck, *ch 1, skip 1, work a D. C. in next st., and repeat from * around neck. Work 1 row of S. C. down left front and around bottom of sacque to starting point. Join with slip st. in first st. of each row. Work 1 row of S. C. around bottom of sleeves.
CAP—Using No. 2 needles, cast on 7 sts. Purl the first and all alternate rows. Row 2—Inc. in first st., *YO, K1, repeat from * across row. Row 4—Inc. in first st., K1, *YO, K2, repeat from * across row. Row 6—Inc. in first st., K2, *YO, K3, repeat from * across row. Row 8—Inc. in first st., K3, *YO, K4, repeat from * across row. Continue in this manner to inc. in first st., and to have 1 more st. between YO's on every knit row, until there are 112 sts. on needle. On the purl row after the last YO row, inc. 1 st. each end of needle to make 114 sts. Work 2½ patterns as on Sacque, (30 rows), dec. 1 st. each end of needle every 4th row. Then work 5 ribs, (10 rows) in garter st., binding off on wrong side of 5th rib.
FINISHING—Run a thread through the original 7 sts. and draw together. Sew back seam of cap from center back to first dec. on pattern rows. Using No. 6 steel crochet hook, work 1 row of slip st. across bound off edge of cap. Work 2 rows of S. C. around bottom of cap. Make rosettes and ties of ribbon and sew to each side of cap.
BOOTEES—Cast on 78 sts. Knit every row for 17 rows. Then K16, bind off next 15 sts., K16, bind off next 15 sts., K16. Break yarn. Place first and last 16 sts. on stitch holders to be worked later. On center 16 sts., knit back and forth for 25 rows. Turn, K32, (16 center sts. and 16 sts. from holder); turn, knit to end of row, (48 sts.). Work 2½ patterns as on Sacque, (30 rows). Then work 5 ribs (10 rows) of garter st., binding off on wrong side of 5th rib.
FINISHING—Sew sole and back seam of bootee. Sew sides of instep piece to bound off sts. Run ribbon through bottom row of holes in first pattern, for ankle tie.
