MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Columbia-Minerva Calibar (2 oz skein) - 13(13-14-15) skeins
OR
Columbia-Minerva Nylon and Wool Calibrette (2 oz skein) - 12(12-13-14) skeins

Knitting Needles: 1 pair each "Boye" Sizes 9 and 10½

Gauge: Pattern Stitch on Size 10½ needles - 3½ sts to 1 inch; 5 rows to 1 inch

BACK: With Size 9 needles cast on 58(62-66-70) sts. Work in K 1, P 1 ribbing for 1½ inches. Change to Size 10½ needles and work in pat as follows: Row 1 - Right side: On Sizes 10, 14 and 16 only K 1(2-1), All Sizes P 2, * K 4, P 2, repeat from * across, ending Sizes 10, 14 and 16 only K 1(2-1). Row 2: P. Row 3: K 4(3-5-4), P 2, * K 4, P 2, repeat from * across, ending K 4(3-5-4). Row 4: P. Repeat these 4 rows for pat. Work until back measures 15 inches or de­sired length from start. Armholes: Bind off 2(3-3-4) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every other row 2(2-3-3) times - 50(52-54-56) sts on needle. Work until armholes measure 7½(8-8½-9) inches straight up from bound-off sts. Shoulders: Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 8(6-4-2) rows. On Sizes 12, 14 and 16 only: Bind off 5 sts at beg of next 2(4-6) rows. All Sizes: Sl rem'ing 18 sts onto st holder.

LEFT FRONT: With Size 9 needles cast on 30(32-34-36) sts. Work in K 1, P 1 ribbing for 1½ inches. Change to Size 10½ needles and work in pat as fol­lows: Row 1 - Right side: Same as Row 1 on Back, ending Sizes 10 and 16 only K 3. Work in pat until front measures same as back to underarm, ending with same pat row. Armhole: Bind off 2(3-3-4) sts at side edge. Dec 1 st at same edge every other row 2(2-3-3) times - 26(27-28-29) sts on needle. Work until armhole measures same as on back, ending with same pat row. Shoulder: Bind off 4 sts at armhole edge 4(3-2-1) times. On Sizes 12, 14 and 16 only: Bind off 5 sts at same edge 1(2-3) times. All Sizes: End at shoulder edge. Sl rem'ing 10 sts onto st holder.

RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond to Left Front, reversing the pat and shaping. Place a marker for 6th buttonhole at front edge, before shaping shoulder. End at front edge.

SLEEVES: With Size 9 needles cast on 28(30-32-34) sts. Work in K 1, P 1 ribbing for 4½ inches, inc'ing 1 st each side on last row - 30(32-34-36) sts on needle. Change to Size 10½ needles and work in pat as follows: Row 1 - Right side: Sizes 10 and 12 only P 1(2), K 4, * P 2, K 4, repeat from * across, ending P 1(2). Sizes 14 and 16 only K 1(2), P 2, * K 4, P 2, repeat from * across, ending K 1(2). All Sizes: Work in pat, inc'ing 1 st each side every 6th row 10(8-8-8) times. On Sizes 12, 14 and 16 only: Inc 1 st each side every 4th row 3(3-4) times - 50(54-56-60) sts on needle. All Sizes: Work until sleeve measures 19(19-19½-19½) inches or 2 inches more than desired length from start. Cap of Sleeve: Bind off 2(3-3-4) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every row 5 times, then every other row 7(8-9-10) times. Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 4 rows. Bind off.

Sew shoulder seams.

HOOD: Place sts of left front, back and right front onto Size 10½ needles - 38 sts. Starting at right front, work in pat for 4 rows. Inc Row: Work 7 sts, * inc 1 st by K'ing in back of st in row below, work 6 sts, re­peat from * 3 times, inc 1 st, work to end of row - 43 sts on needle. Work in pat for 5 rows with P 3 in inc'd ribs. Next row work 4 sts, * inc 1 st, work 7 sts, repeat from * 4 times, inc 1 st, work to end of row - 49 sts on needle. Work in pat with P 3 in all inc'd ribs until hood measures 8½ inches from back of neck, ending on right side. Next row P 24, place marker on needle, P to end of row. Dec Row: Work to 3 sts before marker, sl 1, K 1, psso, K 1, K 2 tog, work to end of row - 47 sts on needle. Repeat dec row every other row twice more - 43 sts on needle. Next P row work to 2 sts before marker, sl 1, P 1, psso, P 1, P 2 tog, P to end of row. Dec every row twice more - 37 sts on needle, ending on right side. Next row P 17, P 2 tog. Break yarn, leaving an end for seam. Fold hood in half and weave or sew seam.

FRONT BORDER: With Size 9 needles cast on 6 sts. Work in K 1, P 1 ribbing until border fits around fronts and hood when slightly stretched. Place mark­ers for 5 buttonholes evenly spaced on right front, having first marker at top of ribbing - 6th marker has been placed opposite start of shoulder. Sew bor­der in place, leaving an opening for buttonholes at markers.

Sew sleeves in place, then sew underarm and sleeve seams.
