MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Columbia-Minerva Calibar (2 oz skein) - 13(14-16-18) skeins
OR
Columbia-Minerva Nylon and Wool Calibrette (2 oz skein) - 12(13-14-16) skeins
Knitting Needles: 1 pair each "Boye" Sizes 5 and 10, 1 "Boye" cable needle and 1 set "Boye" double point needles Size 5
Gauge: Pattern without cables on Size 10 needles - 7 sts to 2 inches; 5 rows to 1 inch
BACK: With Size 5 needles cast on 59(63-65-69) sts. Sizes 10 and 12 only Row 1 - Right side: P 1, * K 1, P 1, repeat from * across. Row 2: K 1, * P 1, K 1, repeat from * across. Sizes 14 and 16 only Row 1: K 1, * P 1, K 1, repeat from * across. Row 2: P 1, * K 1, P 1, repeat from * across. All Sizes: Repeat these 2 rows for 2(2-2½-2½) inches, ending with Row 1. Next row: P, inc'ing 1 st in center st - 60(64-66-70) sts on needle. Change to Size 10 needles and work in pat as follows: Row 1: Work in ribbing pat as before across 21(23-24-26) sts, sl next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold in back, K 2, then K the 2 sts from cable needle for cable #1, P 1, sl next 4 sts onto cable needle and hold in back, K 4, then K the 4 sts from cable needle for cable #2, P 1, twist cable #1 on next 4 sts, work in ribbing pat to end of row. Row 2: P. Row 3: Work ribbing for 21(23-24-26) sts, twist cable #1 on next 4 sts, P 1, K 8, P 1, twist cable #1 on next 4 sts, work in ribbing to end of row. Rows 4 through 12: Repeat Rows 2 and 3. Repeat Rows 1 through 12 for pat. Work until back measures 12(12-12½-12½) inches. Raglan Armholes: Bind off 2(2- 2-3) sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every 4th row 4 times, then every other row 15(16-16-17) times. Sl rem'ing 18(20-22-22) sts onto st holder for back of neck.
FRONT: Work same as Back until 12(13-14-14) armhole decs have been completed - 32(34-34-36) sts on needle, ending on right side. Neck: P 10(10-10-11) sts, sl rem'ing sts onto st holder. Working on one side only, dec 1 st at neck edge every other row 3(3-4-4) times AND AT THE SAME TIME continue armhole decs every other row until all sts are worked off. Leaving center 12(14-14-14) sts on st holder for neck, work other side to correspond.
SLEEVES: With Size 5 needles cast on 35(35-37-37) sts. Work in ribbing as on back for 2(2-2½-2½) inches, ending with Row 1. Next row P, inc'ing 1 st in center st - 36(36-38-38) sts on needle. Change to Size 10 needles and work in pat as follows: Row 1 - Right side: Work in ribbing pat as before across 9(9-10-10) sts, work next 18 sts in cable pat as on back, work ribbing to end of row. Continue in pat, inc'ing 1 st each side every 8th row 5 times, then every 6th row 2(3-3-4) times - 50(52-54-56) sts on needle. Work until sleeve measures 16(16½-16½-17) inches to underarm. Raglan Cap of Sleeve: Bind off 2(2-2-3) sts at beg of next 2 rows, dec 1 st each side every 4th row 4 times, then every other row until 8(8-10-8) sts rem. Sl these sts onto st holder.
Sew sleeves to back and front, then sew underarm and sleeve seams.
TURTLE NECK: With Size 5 double point needles and right side toward you, starting at back, pick up and K 64(66-70-72) sts around neck including sts on st holders. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1 for 5 inches. Bind off loosely in ribbing.
