MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Columbia-Minerva Knitting Worsted (4 oz skein) - 4(4-5-5) skeins
OR
Columbia-Minerva Calypso Germantown Knitting Worsted (2 or 4 oz skein) - 16(18-20-22) ozs
Knitting Needles: 1 pair each "Boye" Sizes 6 and 8
Gauge: Stockinette Stitch on Size 8 needles - 4½ sts to 1 inch; 6 rows to 1 inch
BACK: With Size 6 needles cast on 83(87-91-95) sts. Work in K 1, P 1 ribbing for 10 rows. Change to Size 8 needles and work in St St until back measures 14(14-14½-14½) inches from start. Raglan Armholes: Bind off 6 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every other row until 21(23-23-25) sts rem. Sl sts onto st holder for back of neck. Raglan Bands: With Size 6 needles, on right side of work, starting at first armhole dec on right armhole, pick up and K 53(55-59-61) sts along armhole edge. Work in K 1, P 1 ribbing for 10 rows. Bind off in ribbing. For left armhole band, start at neck edge and work to correspond.
LEFT FRONT: With Size 6 needles cast on 45(47-49-51) sts. Work in P 1, K 1 ribbing, dec'ing 1 st at front edge every other row 5 times - 40(42-44-46) sts on needle. Change to Size 8 needles and work in St St until front measures same as back to underarm. Raglan Armhole and Neck: Bind off 6 sts at side edge. Dec 1 st at same edge every other row 25(26-28-29) times AND AT THE SAME TIME, when 14(14-14-16) sts rem on needle, work across 4 sts at front edge and sl them onto st holder for neck, work to end of row. Bind off 2 sts at neck edge once, then dec 1 st at same edge every other row 2(3-3-4) times. Bind off last st. Work raglan band same as on right armhole on back. Front Border: With Size 6 needles, on right side of work, starting at neck edge, pick up and K 95(95-97-97) sts along front edge. Work in K 1, P 1 ribbing, inc'ing 1 st each side every other row 5 times - 105(105-107-107) sts on needle. Bind off in ribbing.
RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond to Left Front, starting ribbing with K 1 st, and reversing the shaping. Work raglan band same as on left armhole on back. Front Border: With Size 6 needles, on right side of work, starting at lower edge, pick up and K 95(95-97-97) sts along front edge. Work to correspond to Left Front Border, working 7 buttonholes on 5th row as follows: On wrong side, work 5 sts, * bind off next 2 sts, work 13 sts, repeat from * 5 times more, bind off next 2 sts, work to end of row. Next row cast on 2 sts over each set of bound-off sts.
SLEEVES: With Size 6 needles cast on 40(42-44-46) sts. Work in K 1, P 1 ribbing for 10 rows, inc'ing 4 sts evenly spaced across last row - 44(46-48-50) sts on needle. Change to Size 8 needles and work in St St, inc'ing 1 st each side every 8th row 8(8-9-9) times - 60(62-66-68) sts on needle. Work until sleeve measures 16(16-16½-16½) inches or desired length to underarm. Raglan Cap of Sleeve: Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Dec 1 st each side every other row until 6 sts rem. Sl them onto st holder.
Sew edges of raglan bands to fronts and back at underarms, then sew sleeves to fronts and back. Sew underarm and sleeve seams.
NECKBAND: With Size 6 needles, starting at right neck edge, pick up and K 71(73-77-79) sts around neck, including sts on holders. Work in K 1, P 1 ribbing for 10 rows, inc'ing 1 st each side every other row. Bind off in ribbing rather tightly.
Sew mitered corners of ribbed borders at each end of front borders. Face fronts with grosgrain ribbon, working around buttonholes. If desired, embroider chain sts over corner seams.
