MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Columbia-Minerva Knitting Worsted (4 oz skein) - 5(6-6-7) skeins
OR
Columbia-Minerva Calypso Germantown Knitting Worsted (2 or 4 oz skein) - 22(24-26-28) ozs
Knitting Needles: 1 pair each "Boye" Sizes 5 and 9, 1 "Boye" cable needle and 1 set "Boye" double point needles Size 5
Gauge: Stockinette Stitch on Size 9 needles - 4½ sts to 1 inch; 6 rows to 1 inch
BACK: With Size 5 needles cast on 98(102-106-110) sts. Work in K 1, P 1 ribbing for 3 inches. Change to Size 9 needles and work in pat as follows: Row 1 - Right side: On Size 42 only K 1, P 1, on all Sizes * K 2, P 1 *, repeat from * to * 6(6-6-7) times more, sl next 5 sts onto cable needle and hold in back, K next 5 sts, then K the 5 sts from cable needle for cable twist, P 1, K 34(38-38-40), P 1, twist cable on next 10 sts, ** P 1, K 2 **, repeat from ** to ** to end of row, on Size 42 only ending P 1, K 1. Row 2: On Size 42 only P 1, K 1, on all Sizes * P 2, K 1 *, repeat from * to * 6(6-6-7) times more, P 10, K 1, P 34(38- 38-40), K 1, P 10, ** K 1, P 2 **, repeat from ** to ** to end of row, on Size 42 only ending K 1, P 1. Row 3: Same as Row 1 omitting the cable twist. Row 4: Same as Row 2. Rows 5 through 14: Repeat Rows 3 and 4. Repeat these 14 rows for pat. Work until back measures 14½(14½-15-15) inches or desired length from start. Armholes: Bind off 5 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every other row 3 times - 82(86-90-94) sts on needle. Work until armholes measure 9(9½-9½-10) inches straight above bound-off sts at underarm. Shoulders: Bind off 12(12-13-13) sts at beg of next 4(4-4-2) rows, then on Size 44 only bind off 14 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Sl rem'ing 34(38-38-40) sts onto st holder for neck.
FRONT: Work same as Back until armholes measure about 6(6½-6½-7) inches straight above bound-off sts at underarm - 82(86-90-94) sts on needle. Neck: Work across 29(29-31-32) sts and sl rem'ing sts onto st holder. Dec 1 st at neck edge every other row 5 times. Work until armhole measures same as on back. Shoulder: Bind off 12(12-13-13) sts at armhole edge 2(2-2-1) times, then on Size 44 only bind off 14 sts at same edge once. Leaving center 24(28-28-30) sts on holder, work other side to correspond.
SLEEVES: With Size 5 needles cast on 48(50-52-54) sts. Work in K 1, P 1 ribbing for 3 inches, inc'ing 1(2-3-4) sts on last row - 49(52-55-58) sts on needle. Change to Size 9 needles and work in pat as follows: Row 1 - Right side: P 1, * K 2, P 1, repeat from * across. Row 2: K 1, * P 2, K 1, repeat from * across. Repeat these 2 rows for pat, inc'ing 1 st each side every 8th row 10 times, keeping added sts in pat - 69(72-75-78) sts on needle. Work until sleeve measures 20(20-20½-20½) inches or desired length from start to underarm. Cap of Sleeve: Bind off 5 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every other row until 23(24-25-26) sts rem. Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 4 rows, then bind off rem'ing sts.
Sew shoulder seams.
TURTLE NECK: With Size 5 double point needles, on right side of work K across sts on holders, picking up 22 sts on each side of neck - 102(110-110-114) sts on needles. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1 for 3 inches. Bind off very loosely in ribbing.
Sew sleeves in place, then sew underarm and sleeve seams.
