Columbia-Minerva Knitting Worsted (4 oz skein) - 4(4-5-5) skeins
Columbia-Minerva Calypso Germantown Knitting Worsted (2 or 4 oz skein) - 16(18-20-22) ozs
Knitting Needles: 1 pair each "Boye" Sizes 4 and 8
Gauge: Stockinette Stitch on Size 8 needles - 4½ sts to 1 inch; 13 rows to 2 inches
BACK: With Size 4 needles cast on 73(77-81-85) sts. Row 1 - Right side: P 1, * K 1, P 1, repeat from * across. Row 2: K 1, * P 1, K 1, repeat from * across. Repeat these 2 rows for 2 inches, ending with Row 2. Change to Size 8 needles and work in St St, inc'ing 1 st each side every 3 inches twice - 77(81-85-89) sts on needle. Work until back measures 11(11-12-12) inches or desired length to underarm. Armholes: Bind off 3(3-4-4) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every other row 3(4-4-5) times - 65(67- 69-71) sts on needle. Work until armholes measure 7¾(8-8-8½) inches straight above bound-off sts at underarm. Shoulders: Bind off 6(7-7-7) sts at beg of next 2(6-6-4) rows, then on Sizes 12 and 18 only bind off 7(8) sts at beg of next 4(2) rows. Sl rem'ing 25(25-27-27) sts onto st holder for back of neck.
LEFT FRONT: With Size 4 needles cast on 41(43-45-47) sts. Row 1 - Right side: K 1, * P 1, K 1, repeat from * across. Row 2: P 1, * K 1, P 1, repeat from * across. Repeat these 2 rows for 2 inches, ending with Row 2. Change to Size 8 needles and work in St St, inc'ing 1 st at side edge every 1½ inches 3 times, then every 1 inch 3 times more - 47(49-51-53) sts on needle. Work until front measures same as back to underarm. Armhole: Bind off 4(4-5-5) sts at side edge, then bind off 2 sts at same edge once. Dec 1 st at same edge every other row 4(5-5-5) times - 37(38-39-41) sts on needle. Work until armhole measures 5½(5¾-6-6¼) inches straight above bound-off sts. Neck: Work 10(10-11-12) sts at front edge and sl these sts onto st holder, then dec 1 st at neck edge every row 3 times, then every other row 4 times more - 20(21-21-22) sts on needle. Work until armhole measures same as on back. Shoulder: Bind off 6(7-7-7) sts at armhole edge 1(3-3-2) times, then on Sizes 12 and 18 only bind off 7(8) sts at same edge 2(1) times. Place markers for 7 buttons, having first marker ½ inch above lower edge, 2nd marker 1½ inches above lower edge, 7th marker 2 inches below neck - 8th button is on neckband.
RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond to Left Front, working buttonholes opposite markers as follows: Starting at front edge work 3 sts, bind off 3 sts, work to end of row. Next row cast on 3 sts over the bound- off sts.
SLEEVES: With Size 4 needles cast on 36(38-40-42) sts. Work in K 1, P 1 ribbing for 2 inches. Change to Size 8 needles and work in St St, inc'ing 1 st each side, then inc 1 st each side every 8th row 11 times more - 60(62-64-66) sts on needle. Work until sleeve measures 17 inches or desired length to underarm. Cap of Sleeve: Bind off 5 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every other row 13(14-15-16) times. Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 4 rows, then bind off rem'ing 12 sts.
Sew shoulder seams.
NECKBAND: With Size 4 needles, starting at right front, pick up and K 89(89-93-95) sts around neck, including sts on holders. Work in P 1, K 1 ribbing for ½ inch, then work a buttonhole. When neckband measures 1 inch, bind off in ribbing.
Sew sleeves in place, then sew underarm and sleeve seams. Face front edges with grosgrain ribbon, working around buttonholes. Sew on 4(4-4½-4½) yards of satin tubing as illustrated, starting with a single line at center back of neck.
