Basque Shirt—Sizes 2, 4 and 6
Socks—Sizes 5½ to 9

MATERIALS:
J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN: For Size 2—1 ball of White or 2 balls of any light color; also 1 ball each of a medium and a dark color. For Size 4—1 ball of White or 2 balls of any light color; also 2 balls of a medium color and 1 ball of a dark color. For Size 6—2 balls of White or any light color; also 2 balls of a medium color and 1 ball of a dark color.
This amount of material is sufficient for Basque Shirt and Socks. If only socks are made, 1 ball each of 3 colors will be sufficient for several pairs of socks, reversing color scheme where quantity necessitates.
4 double-pointed steel knitting needles No. 12, for Socks.
Milward's Casein Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 1 (2½ mm. size) for Shirt.

Work same as front neck band. Bind off loosely.

Sew in sleeves, matching stripes. Sew side and sleeve seams with one continu­ous seam. Turn up hems on wrong side and sew with loose whipping stitches. Sew seams in neck band, then fold in half and whip down loosely on the in­side, covering ridge where sts were picked up. Press with hot iron through damp cloth.

Break off medium and dark colors. With light color, shape toe as follows: 1st rnd: On 1st needle, k 2 tog, then k across to last 2 sts, and k 2 tog. On 2nd needle, k 2 tog and k across. To Shape Heel: 1st rnd: K around. 2nd rnd: On 1st needle, k 2 tog, then k across to last 2 sts and k 2 tog. On 2nd needle, k 2 tog and k across. On 3rd needle, k across to last 2 sts, then k 2 tog. Repeat these 2 rnds alternately until 21 sts remain. Weave sts together, or bind off, fold and sew.

If desired, run Lastex through ribbing as follows: Thread Lastex through a darning needle and make several rows of running stitches through the ribbing on the inside.
