Knitting Bag Pattern #497

MATERIALS:

J. & P. COATS KNIT-CRO-SHEEN, 3 balls of a self-shading or variegated color and 3 balls of a solid color.

Clark's O.N.T. Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 2.

1 pair wooden bag handles.

GAUGE: 9 sts make 1 inch; 8 rows make 1 inch.

Bag is worked with double thread throughout. Starting at top, using 1 strand of shaded and 1 strand of solid together, cast on 140 sts. 1st row: * Skip 1 st, k in the back of next st, then k in the front of the st which was skipped and allow both sts to slip off left-hand needle. Repeat from * across. 2nd row: P 1, * skip 1 st, purl the next st, then purl the st which was skipped, and allow both sts to slip off left-hand needle. Re­peat from * across, ending with p 1. Repeat these 2 rows alternately for pat­tern, until piece measures 24 inches. Bind off.

FINISHING ... Fold knitted piece in half, to measure 12 x 15½ inches; seam sides to within 4½ inches from top edges. If desired, line bag with lining material. Draw one top edge through slot in handle, and sew down on wrong side. Finish other side in same way.
