Milwards Tapestry Needle for sewing seams.

Length of Round Elastic for Neckband.

Milwards "Disc" Crochet Hook 5 M/M (No. 6) for fringe.

TENSION – 8½ stitches to 2 inches.

ABBREVIATIONS—"C.B." = Slip next 2 sts. on to cable needle and leave at back of work, K.2, then K.2 from cable needle. "C.F." = Slip next 2 sts. on to cable needle and leave at front of work, K.2, then K.2 from cable needle.

PONCHO/SKIRT (8 pieces)

Using No. 4 Needles, cast on 67 stitches.

1st row—P.2, K.8, P.2, knit to last 12 sts., P.2, K.8, P.2.

2nd row—K.2, P.8, K.2, purl to last 12 sts., K.2, P.8, K.2.

** 3rd row—P.2, "C.B.", "C.F.", P.2, K.1, slip 1, K.1, p.s.s.o., knit to last 15 sts., K.2 tog., K.1, P.2, "C.B.", "C.F.", P.2.

4th row—As 2nd row.

Rep. 1st and 2nd rows once.

7th row—P.2, K.8, P.2, K.1, slip 1, K.1, p.s.s.o., knit to last 15 sts., K.2 tog., K.1, P.2, K.8, P.2.

8th row—As 2nd row.

Rep. 1st and 2nd rows once. **

Break off yarn and leave sts. on a stitch holder.

NECKBAND—Using back-stitch, sew up seams.

With right side facing and using set of No. 8 Needles, work sts. from stitch holders as follows—

1st row—* K.1, P.1, rep. from * to end. (152 sts.)

Rep. 1st row 27 times. Cast off loosely in rib.

MAKE UP—With a slightly damp cloth and warm iron, press lightly. Fold neckband in half on to wrong side and slip-stitch in position, leaving opening for elastic. Thread elastic through neckband. Press seams.

FRINGE—Wind yarn round a piece of cardboard 4 ins. wide and cut along one side. Wrong side facing, using 3 strands of yarn and 5 M/M (No. 6) Hook, fold yarn in half and draw loop through a st. at lower edge, Pull ends through loop and tighten. Rep. around lower edge in every 2nd st.
