"Wrap" (worked knitways on a knit row and purlways on a purl row) = Work next st., winding yarn twice around needle instead of once—when working into this st. in following row, work into front loop only, dropping other loop off needle to form a long st.

"Inc." = Pick up loop which lies before next st., place on left-hand needle and knit t.b.l.

Instructions are for size A. Sizes B and C are shown [B…] [C…]. Where one set of figures is given, this applies to all sizes.

Using No. 5 Needles and C., cast on 30 [B 38] [C 38] stitches.

1st row—K.1, "Inc.", * ("Wrap") 4 times, K.4, rep. from * to last 5 sts., ("Wrap") 4 times, "Inc.", K.1.

2nd row—P.2, * ("Wrap") 4 times, P.4, rep. from * to last 6 sts., ("Wrap") 4 times, P.2.

3rd row—K.1, "Inc.", K.1, * ("Wrap") 4 times, K.4, rep. from * to last 6 sts., ("Wrap") 4 times, K.1, "Inc.", K.1.

4th row—P.3, * ("Wrap") 4 times, P.4, rep. from * to last 7 sts., ("Wrap") 4 times, P.3.

Using C., cast off very loosely (use a larger size needle if necessary).

NECKBAND

Using back-stitch, sew up front and back seams.

With right side facing, using set of No. 8 Needles and M„ knit up 72 [B 76] [C 80] sts. evenly around neck.

1st round—* K.1, P.1, rep. from * to end.

Rep. 1st round 24 [B 28] [C 32] times.

Cast off loosely in rib.

Fold neckband in half on to wrong side and slip-stitch in position.

FRINGE

With right side facing, using 5 M/M (No. 6) Hook and M., work 1 round of d.c. evenly around lower edge.

Wind M. around a piece of cardboard 3½ [B 4] [C 4½] ins. wide and cut along one side. With wrong side facing, using 2 strands of yarn, fold yarn in half, and draw loop through a d.c., pull ends through loop and tighten. Rep. in every alt. d.c. around lower edge.
