Lightweight Jacket and Cap Pattern #2008

Materials Required–AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY

"STAR" PEARL COTTON SIZE 5

6 60-yd. Balls White or Colors and 1 60-yd. Ball White or contrasting color.

2½ Yds. Ribbon.

1 Pr. Bone Knitting Needles No. 2.

Gauge–7 sts = 1 inch.

JACKET

BACK. Cast on 70 sts and K 10 rows then Purl 1 row, K 1 row, Purl 1 row.

14th Row–K 1, * over, K 2 together, repeat from * ending row with K 1.

15th Row–K the knitted sts and Purl the over sts. K 1 row, P 1 row, K 1 row, P 1 row. Repeat the last 6 rows 5 times then work 30 rows in stockinette st (K 1 row, P 1 row).

Next 2 Rows–Cast on 36 sts for sleeves and work 36 rows.

Next Row–K 63 sts, bind off the next 16 sts for back of neck, K 63 and continue work on front. Repeat the 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th and 19th rows of pattern then continue in stockinette st. Work 8 rows.

Next Row–Cast on 12 sts for front of neck and K 24 rows. Bind off 36 sleeve sts and continue front same as back. Work other front to correspond.

Pick up 56 sts around neck and work in ribbing of K 2, P 2 for ⅝ inch. Pick up sts at lower edge of sleeves and work in ribbing same as at neck.

Sew underarm seams.

With White crochet a row of s c around jacket.

CAP. Cast on 80 sts and repeat the 1st 10 rows of Jacket.

Then starting with a Purl row continue in stockinette st for 44 rows.

Next Row–Decrease (K 2 together) in the 13th, 26th, 39th, 52nd and 66th st. Decrease in same decreasing points every other row 4 times.

Next Row–Decrease 1 st each end making 7 decreasing points. Continue decreasing at these 7 points every other row until 14 sts remain, draw thread through these sts and sew back seam.

Pick up sts at neck edge of cap and work in ribbing of K 2, P 2, for six rows, bind off.

Finish cap with a crocheted edge same as Jacket and trim with ribbon rosettes.
