REQUIREMENTS:
YARN: 6-ounces of Sport Yarn.
NEEDLES: 1-pr. #2 single pointed. 1-pr. #5 single pointed.
STITCH HOLDER: 1-only.

GAUGE: 6 sts to an inch. 9 rows to an inch.

PATTERN: 1st row: Knit. 2nd row: Purl. 3rd row: Knit. 4th row: Purl. 5th row: Knit. 6th row: Purl. 7th row: Knit. 8th row: Knit.

BACK: Using the #2 needles cast on 72 (76) sts and work in ribbing of k 2, p 2 for 1¼ (1½) inches. Now change to the #5 needles and work in the above pattern until the piece measures 8 (8½) inches from the beginning, or as long as you need up to the underarm. Bind off 2 (2) sts at the beginning of the next 2 rows. (once at each side). Decrease 1 stitch at each side of the work every other row 2 (2) times. Then work even until the armhole measures 4 (4½) inches from the bind off. SHOULDERS: bind off 6 (5) sts at the beginning of the next 6 (8) rows. Place the remaining sts onto a st holder to be worked later for the neck band.

FRONT: Work exactly as the back until the armhole measures 3½ (3½) inches above the underarm. NECK SHAPING: Work over 20 (22) sts; and place the remaining sts onto a st holder; working on the sts that are on the needle; decrease 1 stitch at the neck edge every other row 2 (2) times. When the armhole measures the same as the back, from the armhole edge bind off 6 (5) sts; 3 (4) times. Break yarn. Take 20 (22) sts from the armhole edge and place onto the needle; the remaining sts are for the center of neck. Work 2nd shoulder to correspond.

LONG SLEEVES: Using the #2 needles, cast on 44 (46) sts and work in ribbing of k 2, p 2 for 2½ (2¾) inches. Change to the #5 needles and working in the pattern, increase 1 stitch at each side of the work every 8th row, until you have 52 (56) sts. Work even until the sleeve measures 9 (10½) inches in all, or as long as you need up to the underarm. UNDERARM SHAPING and CAP OF SLEEVES: Bind off 4 (3) sts at the beginning of the next 10 (14) rows. Bind off the remaining sts. MAKE THE OTHER SLEEVE THE SAME WAY.

FINISHING: Sew left shoulders together. With the right side of the work facing you, pick up and knit, 84 sts, (including the sts from the back st holder) around the neck. Work in ribbing of k 2, p 2 for an inch. Bind off loosely, knitting the knit sts, purling the purl sts. Sew the shoulders. Sew sleeve seams, and sew sleeves into the armhole matching the underarm seams.
