MATERIAL:
5 (6-7) skeins Knitting Worsted or Orion Sayelle (4 oz. skein)
or
8 (9-10) skeins 2 color Orion Acrylic 4 ply (2 oz. skein)
1 pair knitting needles each No. 5 and No. 7
1 crochet hook No. 5 or F
1 set sock needles No. 7
2 stitch holders
5 (5-6) buttons

GAUGE: 5 sts. = 1 inch

PATTERN:
1st row: * K2, P2 repeat from * across row end P2.
2nd row: Work as 1st row.
3rd row: * P2, K2 repeat from * across row end K2.
4th row: Work as 3rd row.
5th and 7th row: K across row.
6th and 8th row: P across row.
Repeat these 8 rows for pattern.

LEGGINGS:
Starting at waistline cast on with No. 5 needles 64 (68-72) sts. and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 1 inch. Next row (beading row): * K2, y.o., P2 tog. repeat from * across row. Cont. in ribbing for 1 more inch. Change to No. 7 needles and pattern and incr. 8 (12-12) sts. at even intervals across 1st row. Work even until the entire piece measures 7 (7¾ -8½) inch, or any des. length to crotch. Slip a marker to each end of needle and decr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 4th row 7 (8-9) times. Work even until 10½ (11-11½) inch, from marker. Change to No. 5 needles and decr. 18 (20-22) sts, at even intervals across next row. On rem. 40 (44-44) sts. work in ribbing K2, P2 for 2 inch. Bind off loosely K as K and P as P. Make the 2nd half of leggings the same way.

FINISHING:
Sew up front and back seams to marker, then sew up each leg. With double yarn make a chain 30 inch, long and pull through beading row. Block to size.

JACKET:
BACK:
Cast on 52 (56-60) sts. with No. 5 needles and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 2 inch, (all sizes). Incr. 4 sts. (all sizes) at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 7 needles and pattern. With 56 (60-64) sts. work even until the entire piece measures 7 (8-9) inch, or any des. length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 4 (5-5) sts., at the beg. of the next 2 rows 2 sts. (44 (46-50) sts. left). Work even for 5¼ (5½-5¾) inch, from the first binding off. Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 4 (4-6) rows 7 (8-6) sts., rem. 16 (14-14) sts. bind off for neck.

LEFT FRONT:
   Note: For boys reverse sides.
Cast on 23 (31-33) sts. with No. 5 needles and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 2 inch, (all sizes), keeping the 5 center front sts. in seed st. for border throughout the entire front. Incr. 2 sts. (all sizes) at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 7 needles and pattern. With 25 (33-35) sts. work even until the entire piece measures like back to underarm. Bind off at arm-hole edge at the beg. of the next row 4 (5-5) sts. and at the beg. of the next row at same edge 2 sts. (all sizes) (19 (26-28) sts. left). Work even for 3¾ (4-4¼) inch, from the first binding off. Bind off for neck 5 (6-6) sts. at center edge. Bind off 0 (2-2) sts. at neck edge every other row until there are 14 (16-18) sts. left. Work as high as back and bind off for shoulder at armhole edge 7 (8-6) sts. 2 (2-3) times.

RIGHT FRONT:
Cast on 39 (45-47) sts. with No. 5 needles and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 2 inch, (all sizes), keeping the 5 center front sts. in seed st. for border throughout the en­tire front. Work 5 (5-6) buttonholes evenly spaced apart in front border, placing first buttonhole ½ inch from beg. and last one 2 rows below neck edge. (To make a button­hole work 2 sts., bind off 2 sts., work to end of row. On next row cast on 2 sts. over the 2 bound off sts. of previous row.) Incr. 2 sts. at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 7 needles and pattern. With 41 (47-49) sts. work even until the entire piece measures like back to underarm. Bind off at armhole edge at the beg. of the next row 4 (5-5) sts. and at the beg. of the next 1 (2-2) rows at same edge 2 sts. (all sizes) (35 (38-40) sts. left). Work even for 3¾ (4-4½) inch, from the first binding off. Bind off for neck 15 (16-16) sts. at center edge and then 2 sts. at neck edge until 14 (16-18) sts. are left over. Work as high as back and bind off for shoulder at armhole edge 7 (8-6) sts. 2 (2-3) times.

SLEEVE:
Cast on 32 (32-36) sts. with No. 5 needles and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 2 inch, (all sizes). Incr. 4 sts. (all sizes) at even intervals across last row of ribbing. Change to No. 7 needles and pattern. Incr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 6th row until 46 (50-54) sts. are on needle. Work even until the entire sleeve measures 8½ (9½-10½) inch, or any des. length to underarm. Bind off at the beg. of the next 2 rows 4 (4-5) sts. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. of each row until cap measures 2 (2¼-2½) inch. Decr. 1 st. at the beg. and end of every 4th row twice (all sizes). Bind off 2 sts. at the beg. of the next 4 rows. Bind off rem. sts. Work the other sleeve to correspond.

FINISHING:
Sew up side, sleeve and shoulder seams. Sew in sleeves. Neckband: Right side facing you pick up with No. 5 needles 56 (60-64) sts. around the neck and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 5 rows. Bind off loosely K as K and P as P. Sew buttons in place and block to size.

HAT:
Starting with earlaps cast on 4 sts. with No. 7 nee­dles and work in ribbing K2, P2. Incr. 1 st. at beg. and end of every other row until 16 (18-20) sts. are on needle. Slip sts. to a holder and work the other earlap the same way. Cast on 4 (6-8) sts. at beg. of next row (first half of back of hat) work in ribbing K2, P2 across these 4 (6-8) sts., cont. ribbing across 16 (18-20) sts. of earlap, cast on 32 sts. (all sizes) for front of hat, work across 16 (18-20) sts. from holder (2nd earlap) and cast on 4 (6-8) sts. for 2nd half of back of hat (72 (80-88) sts. on needle). Work in ribbing K2, P2 for 6 rows. 1st row: K4 (6-8), work 16 (18-20) sts. in ribbing, work center 32 sts. in pattern, work 16 (18-20) sts. in ribbing, K4 (6-8). 2nd row: P4 (6-8), work 16 (18-20) sts. in ribbing, work center 32 sts. in pattern, work 16 (18-20) sts. in ribbing, P4 (6-8). Repeat these 2 rows until 16 rows are completed. From now on work first and last 20 (24-28) sts. on needle in stock. st. and keep center 32 sts. in pattern until piece measures 5 (5¼-5½) inch, from center front cast on. Change to stock. st. and decr, as follows: 1st decr, row:*K6, K2 tog. repeat from * across row. P back. 2nd decr, row: * K5, K2 tog. repeat from * across row. P back. Cont. to work this way having 1 st. less between decr, every other row until 9 (10-11) sts. are left. Break yarn leaving a 10 inch end. Thread this end with a tapestry needle and pull through rem. sts. Fasten off tightly on wrong side. Sew up back seam and crochet 1 row s.c. around each earlap. With double yarn and No. 5 crochet hook make 2 chains each 10 inch, long and sew one to end of each earlap. Block to size.

2 NEEDLE MITTENS:
With No. 5 needles cast on 28 (32-36) sts. and work in ribbing K2, P2 for 2 inch, (all sizes). Change to No. 7 needles and pattern and work even for 1 inch. Thumb: Work 9 (10-11) sts. With a different colored yarn K next 5 (6-7) sts. Slip these sts. back to left hand needle and K across them again with mitten yarn. (These sts. are for thumb and are going to be worked later.) Work across rem. 14 (16-18) sts. Work even for 2 (2½-3) inch. Tip: * K2, K2 tog. repeat from * across row. P back. Next row: * K1, K2 tog. repeat from * across row. P back. Next row: K2 tog. across row. Break yarn, leaving a 6 inch end. Thread a tapestry needle with this end and pull yarn through rem. sts. Fasten off tightly on wrong side. Thumb: Pull out extra thread and pick up 10 (12-14) sts. with No. 7 sock needles and work even for ¾ (1-1½) inch. K2 tog. across next round. Finish as tip of mitten. Sew up side seam and block to size. Work the 2nd mitten to correspond.
