Children's Gloves Pattern #118

Size 5

Size 5½ and 6 in parenthesis

MATERIAL:

1 ball Sockyarn 3 ply (1 oz. ball)

1 set bone sock needles No. 1 and No. 2

1 stitchholder

GAUGE: 8 sts. = 1 inch

PATTERN:

   1st round: K around

   2nd round: * K1, P1 repeat from * around.

NOTE: If fingers have uneven number of sts. take 1 more st. from back of hand as from palm.

   Cast on 40 (44-48) sts. with No. 1 needles, join and work in ribbing K2, P2, for 2 (2¼-2½) inch. Change to No. 2 needles and pattern and work even for 6 rounds. Start to increase for thumb gore on a K round. Place a marker on needle. Increase 1 st. K1, increase 1 st. Place a marker on needle. K to end of round. Work 1 round in pattern. Increase 1 st. (after first marker) K3, increase 1 st. (before last marker). Work 1 round in pattern. Con­tinue to increase 1 st. after first marker and before last marker, having 2 more sts. between increases in every other round and work the thumb sts. in stock st. and the remainder of glove in pattern until 11 (13-15) sts. in thumb gore. Work even in pattern (keeping thumb sts. in stock. st.) until glove measures from top of ribbing 1¾ (2-2¼) inch. Then slip the 11 (13-15) thumb sts. to a stitchholder. Work to end of round and cast on 3 sts. Join and work even in pattern until glove measures from stitchholder 1 (1¼-1½) inch. Slip all sts. to a thread.

   Slip off for Forefinger 12 (13-14) sts. Divide sts. on 3 needles and cast on 2 sts. in between. Work in stock. st. for 1½ (1¾-2) inch. K2 sts. tog. across next round. K1 round even. Break yarn leaving 8 inch. Thread a tapes try needle with this end and run twice through remaining sts. pull sts. tog. and fasten off tightly on wrong side.

   Slip off for Middlefinger 11 (13-13) sts., divide the sts. on 3 needles, picking up 2 sts. on the 2 cast on sts. of forefinger and cast on 2 sts. between palm and back of hand. Work in stock. st. for 2 (2-2¼) inch. Decrease and finish off as forefinger.

   Slip off for Ringfinger 9 (10-12) sts. Work the same way as middlefinger, only work it 1¾ (2-2¼) inch long. Decrease and finish off as forefinger.

   For Little Finger work the remaining 10 (10-11) sts. Divide the sts. on 3 needles, picking up 2 sts. on the 2 cast on sts. of ringfinger. Work in stock. st. for 1¼ (1½-1¾) inch. Decrease and finish off as on forefinger.

   For Thumb slip sts. from stitchholder to 2 needles and pick up 3 sts. on the 3 cast on sts. with 3rd needle. Work in stock. st. for 1¼ (1½-1¾) inch. Finish off and decrease as on forefinger. Work the left glove to correspond and steam lightly.
