Date Bait Cardigan Pattern #902

REQUIREMENTS:
BULKY KNIT YARN
SIZES:   12 (14 - 16)
            14 ozs. (15 ozs. - 16 ozs.)
1 pair No. 5 Aluminum knitting needles
1 pair No. 11 Wooden knitting needles

PATTERN ST:

Row 1: K1, P1 across row.

Row 2: Knit.

BACK: With No. 11 needles cast on 49 (53-57) sts.

Work in pattern for 8 (8½-9) inches.

Bind off, 6 sts at beginning of next 2 rows, then 1 st at beginning of next 4 rows.

Work straight until armhole measures 7 (7½-8) inches straight up from beginning of shaping.

Bind off 4 (5-5) sts at beginning of next 4 rows and 3 (4-4) sts at beginning of next 2 rows. Bind off remaining sts for back of neck.

LEFT FRONT: With No. 11 needles cast on 35 (37-39) sts. Work in pattern keeping first 6 sts in seed st for front border.

Work same as back to armhole. Bind off 6 sts at beginning of next 2 rows, then 1 st every other row 3 (4-4) times.

Work straight until armhole measures 6 inches. At neck edge bind off 7 (8-8) sts once, then 4 sts once, 3 sts once.

Bind off same as back for shoulder.

RIGHT FRONT: Work same as left front reversing all shaping and forming first buttonhole when work measures ½ inch.

Buttonhole: Work first 3 sts in seed st, cast off next st, finish row. On the next row cast on 1 st over bound off st. Repeat buttonhole evenly spaced every 2 inches to top of neck.

SLEEVES: With No. 5 needles cast on 37 (39-41) sts.

Work in K1, P1 ribbing, for 1½ inches.

Change to No. 11 needles and work in pattern st, inc 1 st each side every inch 3 times.

Work straight until piece measures 8 (8-8½) inches.

Bind off 6 sts at beginning of next 2 rows, then 1 st at beginning of every row until 11 (12-13) remain.

Bind off remaining sts.

COLLAR: With No. 11 needles cast on 49 (49-51) sts.

Starting at bottom edge of collar, work straight for 1½ inches.

Change to No. 5 needles and work 1 inch.

Work short rows as follows:

Row 1: Work in pattern to within 8 sts from end of row, turn.

Row 2: Slip first st, work in pattern to within 8 sts from end of row, turn.

Row 3: Slip first st, work in pattern to within 9 sts from end of last short row, turn.

Row 4: Same as row 3.

Row 5: Slip first st, work across 31 (31-33) sts, turn.

Row 6: Work across all 49 (49-51) sts.

Bind off loosely on next row.

Block all pieces. Assemble sweater and sew buttons in place.
