GAUGE: 5 sts = 1 inch

1st ROW: With White cast on 87 sts, K 1, *P 1, K 3, repeat from * across row end­ing with P 1, K 1. 2nd ROW: With White P 1, with Watermelon P 1, with White P 3, repeat from * across row ending with Watermelon P 1, with White P 1. 3rd ROW: With White K 1, with Watermelon popcorn st in next st, * with White K 3, with Watermelon popcorn st in next st, repeat from * across row ending with K 1. 4th ROW: With White P across row. 5th ROW: Repeat 1st row, cut yarn. 6th ROW: With Black P across row, cut yarn. 7th ROW: With White K across row. 8th ROW: With White P 1, * K 1, P 3, repeat from * across row. 9th ROW: Repeat 1st row. 10th ROW: Repeat 2nd row but using Peacock. 11th ROW: With White K 1,* with Peacock popcorn st in next st, with White K 3, repeat from * across row. 12th ROW: With White P across row. 13th ROW: Repeat 1st row, cut yarn. 14th ROW: Repeat 6th row, cut yarn. 15th ROW: With White K across row. 16th ROW: Repeat 8th row. 17th ROW: Repeat 1st row. 18th ROW: Repeat 2nd row but use Violet. Repeat 3rd, 4th, and 5th rows once. Keeping pattern uniform work in ribbing of K 3, P 1 until cap measures 5½ inches ending at P side. NEXT ROW: Bind off 29 sts in pattern, work next 29 sts in pattern, bind off remaining sts, cut yarn, turn. Work remaining center sts in K 3, P 1 ribbing until center section meas­ures same as side sections, bind off in ribbing. Sew each side seam. NECK BAND: With White cast on 3 sts. 1st ROW: Inc in 1st st, sl next st (when slipping st hold the yarn to the back and sl as if to P), inc 1 st in last St. 2nd ROW: Inc 1 st in 1st st, sl 1, P 1, sl 1, inc in next st. 3rd ROW: Inc in 1 st st, P 1, * sl 1, P 1, repeat from * once, inc in last st (9 sts on needle). 4th ROW: * Sl 1, P 1, repeat from * across row. 5th ROW: * P 1, sl 1, repeat from * across row. 6th ROW: * Sl 1, P 1, sl 1, bind off next 3 sts for buttonhole, P 1, sl 1. 7th ROW: P 1, sl 1, P 1, cast on 3 sts over the bound off sts, P 1, sl 1, P 1. Repeat 4th and 5th rows until band measures 17 inches or desired length, bind off. Block band. Stretch to 20½ inches. Sew to lower edge of cap at neck as illustrated leaving the side with the buttonhole free for 5 inches and easing fullness at back of cap. Sew button in position.
