Materials Required: AMERICAN THREAD COMPANY "DAWN" DE LUXE FINGERING YARN or "DAWN" NYLON
2 ounces Red
1 ounce White or colors of your choice
1 set Double Pointed Knitting Needles No. 2
1 Pr. Knitting Needles No. 2 OR ANY SIZE NEEDLES WHICH WILL RESULT IN STITCH GAUGE BELOW

GAUGE: 7 sts = 1 inch

With Red cast on 62 sts on 1 needle. Working back and forth work 2 inches in K 2, P 2 ribbing inc 1 st in last row of ribbing. Work in pattern as follows: 1st ROW: * With Red K 3, drop Red, with White K 3, drop White, repeat from * across row ending with Red K 3. When changing color always carry dropped yarn on wrong side. 2nd ROW: Same as 1 st row. 3rd and 12th ROWS: With White K 1, * with Red K 3, with White K 3, repeat from * across row ending with Red K 2. 5th and 10th ROWS: With White K 2, * with Red K 3, with White K 3, repeat from * across row ending with Red K 1. 7th and 8th ROWS: With White K 3, * with Red K 3, with White K 3, repeat from * across row. 6th and 9th ROWS: With Red K 1, * with White K 3, with Red K 3, repeat from * across row ending with White K 2. 4th and 11th ROWS: With Red K 2, * with White K 3, with Red K 3, repeat from * across row ending with White K 1. Repeat these 1 2 rows for pat­tern for 6 inches. NEXT ROW: Divide sts for heel and instep. Working in pattern work 16 sts for ½ of heel, work next 31 sts for instep, place these sts on a st holder, work next 16 sts for 2nd half of heel, cut White. Join the 2 heel sections and with Red work 2½ inches in stockin­ette st (K 1 row, P 1 row) ending with a P row. TURN HEEL: Sl 1, K 17, sl 1, K 1, p.s.s.o., K 1, turn; sl 1, P 5, P 2 tog, P 1, turn; sl 1, K 6, sl 1, K 1, p.s.s.o., K 1, turn; sl 1 , P 7, P 2 tog, P 1, turn. Continue in this manner until all sts have been worked ending with a P row (18 sts left on needle), cut yarn. With right side of work facing pick up 16 sts on side of heel, K 18 sts of heel, pick up 16 sts on oppo­site side of heel (50 sts on needle). P 1 row. Work gusset as follows: K 1, sl 1, K 1, p.s.s.o., K to within 3 sts, K 2 tog, K 1, turn. P 1 row. Repeat last 2 rows until 30 sts remain. Work even until foot measures 7½ inches or is 2½ inches less than desired length. Place sts on st holder, sl instep sts from holder on needle, attach White, dec 1 st in 1st row, then work in pattern until instep section is same length as sole section, cut White. Divide sts as follows: place last 15 sts on dpn (1st needle); sl instep sts on another dpn (2nd needle); place remaining 15 sts on an­other dpn (3rd needle). SHAPE TOE: 1st ROUND: 1st needle: K to within 3 sts, K 2 tog, K 1; 2nd needle: K 1, sl 1, K 1, p.s.s.o., K to within 3 sts, K 2 tog, K 1; 3rd needle: K 1, sl 1, K 1, p.s.s.o., work to end of round. NEXT ROUND: Work even. Repeat these 2 rounds until 20 sts remain (10 sts on 2nd needle, 5 sts on 1st and 3rd needles) ending with 1st needle. Sl 5 sts from 1st needle to 3rd needle, cut yarn leaving a length. Weave sts tog.
