Knitted Lace Wardrobe for 3 Months Pattern

MATERIALS:
Little knitteds in a very easy lace stitch pattern are interesting to knit when you are sure to use your choice of Beehive Fingering 3 ply Patonised or Patwin 3 ply Patonised, the two dependable yarns with which satisfactory test models were made from these instructions. Of either yarn you will require:—9 ozs. for the Set (4 pieces). If made separately, the Jacket takes 3 ozs. Kimona 5 ozs. Bonnet 1 oz. Bootees 1 oz. Two No. 10 Queen Bee Knitting Needles. 4 Buttons. 3 yds. Ribbon ¼ inch wide. 2 yds. Ribbon ½ inch wide.

MEASUREMENTS: Jacket—to fit 18-inch Chest. Length from top of shoulder 9½ ins. Sleeve seam ins. Kimona—same as Jacket, but 18½ ins. from top of shoulder. Bonnet—Width all round at face edge 11½ ins. Depth 6 ins.

Tension: 8 sts. and 10 rows = 1 inch in Stocking st.

PATTERN: 1st row: K2. *Wl.fwd. Sl.1. K1. p.s.s.o. K1. K2tog. Wl.fwd. K2. Repeat from * to end of row.
2nd row: K2. *P5. K2. Repeat from * to end of row.
3rd row: K3. *Wl.fwd. Sl.1. K2tog. p.s.s.o. Wl.fwd. K4. Repeat from * to last 6 sts. Wl.fwd. Sl.1. K2tog. p.s.s.o. Wl.fwd. K3.
4th row: K2. *P5. K2. Repeat from * to end of row. These 4 rows complete one pattern.

THE JACKET

The Jacket (or Kimona) is worked in one piece to armholes. Cast on 177 sts. Knit 1 row.

Before proceeding, please read "Important Information" see below.

Work 6 ins. even in pattern ending with 2nd pattern row.
Next row: K3. *S1.1. K2tog. p.s.s.o. K4. Repeat from * to last 6 sts. Sl.1. K2tog. p.s.s.o. K3. (127 sts. on needle). Knit 1 row.
Next row: (eyelets). K4. *Wl.fwd. K2tog. K1. Repeat from * to last 3 sts. K3. Knit 1 row.
Next row: K32. Cast off 2 sts. for underarm. K59. Cast off 2 sts. for underarm. K32.
Working on last 32 sts. proceed:—

To make Left Front: Knit even in Garter st. (plain knitting every row) until work measures 3½ ins. from eyelet row, ending at armhole edge.
Next row: Cast off 19 sts. for shoulder. K13.
Knit 1 more row on these 13 sts. ending at shoulder edge. Break wool and leave these sts. on a thread.

To make Back: With wrong side of work facing, join wool to next 59 sts.

Knit even in Garter st. for same number of rows as Left Front. With right side of work facing, cast off 19 sts. beginning next 2 rows for shoulders. Break wool and leave remaining 21 sts. on a thread.

To make Right Front: With wrong side of work facing, join wool to remaining 32 sts.
Knit 3 rows, thus ending at front edge.

Next row: K3. (Wl.fwd. K2tog. for buttonhole). Knit to end of row.

Working 2nd buttonhole on following 14th row, continue to cor­respond to Left Front, ending at shoulder edge. Do not break wool.

To make back of Collar: With right side of work facing, knit the sts. of Back and the sts. of Left Front onto needle with sts. of Right Front. Knit 4 rows. Cast off.

SLEEVES: Cast on 30 sts. Knit 9 rows Garter st.
10th row: K2. *Inc. 1.st. in next st. K1. Repeat from * to end of row. (44 sts. on needle).
11th row: K2. *P5. K2. Repeat from * to end of row. Continue even in pattern until sleeve measures 5½ ins. from be­ginning.

To shape cap: Keeping continuity of pattern, cast off 7 sts. beginning next 4 rows. Cast off remaining sts.

TO MAKE UP: Press pieces carefully. Sew shoulder and sleeve seams. Sew in sleeves. Sew buttons to correspond to buttonholes. Thread ½-inch ribbon through eyelets at waist.

THE KIMONA

Work exactly as given for the Jacket, working 15 ins. even in pattern, instead of 6 ins.

THE BONNET

Beginning at face edge, cast on 72 sts. Knit 1 row. Work 6 complete patterns. Work 11 rows (K1. P1) ribbing.
With wrong side of work facing, continue even in pattern until work measures 7½ ins. from cast-on edge ending with 4th pattern row. Proceed:—

1st row: *K4. K2tog. Repeat from * to end of row. Knit 1 row. Repeat these 2 rows once.
5th row: *K3. K2tog. Repeat from * to end of row. Knit 1 row. Repeat last 2 rows once.
9th row: *K2. K2tog. Repeat from * to end of row. Knit 1 row. Repeat last 2 rows once. (18 sts. on needle).
13th row: (K2tog.) 9 times. Break wool. Thread end through remaining sts. Draw up and fasten securely. Press carefully. Sew up back seam for 3 ins. from base of crown. Make ribbon rosettes with ¼-inch ribbon and sew to bonnet as illustrated.

THE BOOTEES

Cast on 30 sts. Knit 1 row.
Work 8 complete patterns.

To make foot: K20. Turn. Next row: K10. Turn.
Working on center 10 sts. knit 21 rows Garter st. (plain knitting every row).

Next row: Pick up and knit 11 sts. alongside of toe flap. Knit remaining 10 sts.

Next row: K31. Pick up and knit 11 sts. along other side of toe flap. Knit remaining 10 sts. (52 sts. on needle). Knit 12 rows.

Next row: K2tog. Knit to 4 center sts. (K2tog.) twice. Knit to last 2 sts. K2tog.

Next row: Knit. Repeat last 2 rows twice. Cast off. Sew up back seam. Press lightly. Thread ½-inch ribbon around ankle through eyelets formed by pattern. Make another bootee to correspond.
