MATERIALS:
All  three of these little gifts can be knitted from one ball of Beehive Baby Wool  Patonised. The Mitts and Slippers are for 3 months' size. You will also need:—Two  No. 11 Queen Bee Knitting Needles. 4 Buttons for slippers, ⅔ yd. narrow Ribbon  for mitts, 1½ yds. narrow Ribbon and 3 small Bells for carriage bells.
MITTS WITH THUMBS
Cast  on 56 sts. 
    1st row: Knit.
    2nd row: (right side of work). *Sl.1. K1. p.s.s.o. K4. K2tog. K6.
  Repeat  from * to end of row.
  3rd row: *K6. P6. Repeat from * to end of row.
  4th row: *Sl.1. K1. p.s.s.o. K2. K2tog. K6. Repeat from * to end of row.
  5th row: *K6. P4. Repeat from * to end of row.
  6th row: *Sl.1.  Kl. p.s.s.o. K2tog. K6. Repeat from * to end of row. (32 sts. on needle).
  Work  5 rows (K2. P2) ribbing.
  12th row: (eyelets). *K1. W1.fwd. K2tog. Repeat from * to last 2 sts. K2.
  Knit  3 rows Garter st, (plain knitting every row).
  Continue  in Garter st. inc. 1.st. each end of needle on next and following 4th row. (36  sts. on needle).
  Knit  5 rows even. With right side of work facing proceed:—
To make thumb: K23. Turn. Next row: K10. Turn. 
  Working  on center 10 sts. knit 10 rows.
  Next row: (K2tog.) 5 times. Break wool. Thread end through remaining sts, Draw up and  fasten securely. Sew thumb seam. With right side of work facing, join wool to  last st. on right hand needle and knit across 13 sts. of left hand needle (26  sts. on needle). Knit 22 rows.
  Next row: K2tog. Knit to 4 center sts. (K2tog.) twice. Knit to last 2 sts. K2tog. Repeat  this row 3 times.
  Next row: (K2tog.) 5 times. Break wool. Thread end through remaining sts. Draw up and  fasten securely. Sew side seam. Thread ribbon through eyelets at wrist. Make  another mitt to correspond.
CARRIAGE BELLS
Cast  on 6 sts.
    1st row: K1. Purl to last st. K1.
    2nd row: Inc. 1.st. in each st. to last st. K1. (11 sts. on needle). 
    3rd and 4th rows: As 1st. and 2nd rows. (21 sts. on needle). Continue in Stocking st. for 1¾ ins.  ending with purl row. Cast off. Gather up top. Sew up seam. Roll ½ inch at  lower edge over to right side and tack in position as illustrated. Make 2 more  bells in same manner.
Cut 3 pieces of ribbon 12½ ins. long. 14 ins. and 15 ins. Thread ends through small bells and tie. Thread ribbons through top of knitted bells and tack in place. Tie the three ends of ribbon in a bow as illustrated.
SLIPPERS
Beginning  with sole, cast on 20 sts. (wrong side of work). Knit 1 row.
  Continue  in Garter st. (plain knitting every row) inc. 1.st. at beginning of needle  every row to 30 sts. on needle. Knit 2 rows.
  Dec.  1.st. at beginning of needle every row to 20 sts. on needle. Knit 1 row. Cast  on 7 sts. for heel.
  Next row: Knit to last 2 sts. Inc. 1.st. in next st. for toe of slipper. K1.
  Continue  inc. 1.st. at toe edge every alternate row to 34 sts. on needle. Knit to heel edge.
  Next row: Cast  off 17 sts. K1. (P1. K1) 8 times for Moss st. Work 15 rows in Moss st. on  remaining 17 sts. casting on 17 sts. at end of last row. (34 sts. on needle). 
  Next row: K18. (P1. K1) 8 times.
ANKLE STRAP: Cast on 35 sts. loosely. Work 2 rows  Moss st. 
  3rd row: (buttonhole). K1. P1. K1. Wl.fwd. K2tog. Moss st. to end of row.
Work  2 rows Moss st. Cast off loosely in Moss st.
TO MAKE UP: Sew center back seam. Placing back point of sole to this seam, sew sole into position. Sew toe opening. Sew ankle strap to back of slipper. Sew one button to correspond to buttonhole. Sew other button to front of slipper as illustrated. Make another slipper to correspond.
