RIGHT MITTEN: Cast on 27 sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 12 rows. Work beading for drawstring as follows: * K 2 tog., Y O; repeat from * across row ending K 1. Work in ribbing of P 1, K 1, for 4 rows. K 1, row, P 1 row, then start gusset for thumb on next row as follows: Row 1—K 12, increase 1 st in next st, K 1, increase 1 st in next st, K 12. Row 2—Purl. Row 3—K 12, increase 1 st in next st, K 3, increase 1 st in next st, K 12. Row 4—Purl. Row 5—K 12, increase 1 st in next st, K 5, increase 1 st in next st, K 12. Row 6—Purl. Row 7—K 12, increase 1 st in next st, K 7, increase 1 st in next st, K 12. Row 8—Purl. Row 9—K 13; place on st-holder. K 2 tog. K 7; place remaining 13 sts on 2nd st-holder.
   Work in stockinette st on the 8 thumb sts for 5 rows, then decrease as follows: Row 1—* K 2 tog., K 1; repeat from * once ending K 2 tog. Row 2—P 2 tog., P 1, P 2 tog. Draw remaining sts tog. and fasten off. Sew thumb seam.
   Place the first 13 sts from first st-holder to Needle, attach yarn, pick up 1 st at base of thumb. Place the sts from 2nd st-holder to left hand Needle and work across row. Work even in stockinette st for 14 rows, then decrease tip of mitten as follows: Row 1—K 2, * K 2 tog., K 3; repeat from * across row. Row 2—Purl. Row 3—K 2, * K 2 tog., K 2; repeat from * across row. Row 4—Purl. Row 5—* K 1, K 2 tog.; repeat from * across row ending K 2. Row 6—P 2 tog. across row. Draw remaining sts tog. and fasten off. Sew side seams.
LEFT MITTEN: Work as given for right mitten.
   With contrasting color, make a chain st cord of desired length to draw through beading at wrist and trim with Pompoms as illustrated.
