RIGHT MITTEN: With Main color (M C) cast on 35 sts. Work in ribbing of K 1, P 1, for 20 rows. Work 4 rows even in pattern following the chart as follows: Row 1—K 1 M C, * 1 contrasting color (C C), 1 M C, 1 C C, 3 M C; repeat from * 4 times ending with 1 C C, 1 M C, 1 C C, 1 M C. Row 2—P 2 M C, * 1 C C, 5 M C; repeat from * 4 times ending with 1 C C, 2 M C. Row 3—Repeat Row 1. Row 4—P 1 row M C, then start increasing for thumb gusset as follows: divide the contrasting color into 2 balls, then K 4 M C, 1 C C, 1 M C, 1 C C, 3 M C, 1 C C, 1 M C, 1 C C, 3 M C; continuing with M C increase 1 st in next st, K 1 increase 1 st in next st, K 3, then with 2nd ball of C C, K 1, 1 M C, 1 C C, 3 M C, 1 C C, 1 M C, 1 C C, 4 M C. Work in stockinette st on the 13 thumb sts for 11 rows, then decrease tip of thumb as follows: Row 1—K 1, * K 2 tog., K 1; repeat from * across row. Row 2—* P 1, P 2 tog.; repeat from * across row. Draw remaining sts tog. and fasten off. Sew thumb seam.
Place sts from first st-holder to Needle. Attach yarn and pick up 1 st at base of thumb. Place sts from 2nd st-holder to left hand Needle and work across in pattern. Continuing pattern as given on chart, work even for 19 rows.
Following the chart, decrease tip of mitten as follows: Row 1—K 1, K 2 tog., K 11, slip 1 st, K 1, P S S O (pass the slipped st over the K st), K 2 tog., K 1, K 2 tog., K 11, slip next st, K 1, P S S O, K 1.
