
REQUIREMENTS: 
  YARN: 2-ounces of Knitting Worsted.
  NEEDLES: 1-pr. #4 needles Single Pointed.
RIGHT MITTEN: With the #4 needles starting at the cuff cast on 40  sts. Work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 2½ inches. Now work in the following  PATTERN:
    1st row: K 5 sts; p 2, k 2nd st on the left hand needle from the back, now k the  1st st, slip both sts off together (cable), p 2, make a cable again on the next  2 sts, p 2, k 25 sts.
    2nd row: P 25 sts, k 2, p 2, k 2, p 2, k 2, p 5.
  Repeat row 1 and 2 for the pattern.
  After 4 rows start the THUMB INCREASES: 1st inc: Work over 20 sts in the pattern; inc.  1 st in each of the next 2 sts; k 18 sts.
  2nd row and every other row: Work back as the sts are. (Rows 2-4-6-8).
  2nd inc: Work over 20 sts in the pattern; inc. in next st; k 2; inc. in next st;  k to end.
  3rd inc: Work over 20 sts in the pattern; inc. in next st; k 4;  inc. in next st; k to end of row.
  4th inc: Work over 20 sts; inc. in next st; k 6; inc. in next st; k to end of  row.
  5th inc: Work over 20 sts; inc. in next st; k 8; inc. in next st; k to end of  row. Work back as the sts are after the last increase.
THUMB SEPARATION: Work over 20 sts; place these sts onto a st holder; k 12 sts; leave on  the needle; place the remaining sts onto a 2nd st holder. Cast on 1 st at the  end of thumb sts; turn and purl back, cast on 1 st at the end of this row.
  Work in stockinette stitch on these thumb  sts for 1¾ inches. Next Knit  Row: K 2 sts together across  the row. Break the yarn leaving 6 inches. Thread a darning needle and draw  tightly thru all the sts and fasten on the wrong side. Sew up the thumb.
  Place the sts off the first st holder, back  onto the needle. Tie yarn at the first st; pick up and knit 3 sts along the  thumb; k the sts off the 2nd st holder. Now working in the pattern cabling on  the right side of work. Work until the mitten measures 4 inches above the cuff.  Discontinue pattern from now on.
TIP DECREASES: 1st dec: * K 5 sts; k 2 tog; repeat from * across row. Purl all  sts across.
    2nd dec: * K 4 sts; k 2 tog; repeat from * across row. Purl  across all sts.
    3rd dec: * K 3 sts; k 2 tog, repeat from * across row. Purl across all sts.
    4th dec: * K 2 sts; k 2 tog; repeat from * across row. Purl  across all sts.
    5th dec: * K 1 st; k 2 tog; repeat from * across row. Purl 2  sts together across the next row. Break the yarn leaving 10 inches. Draw thru  all the sts, fasten on the wrong side of the mitten. Sew up side of mitten.
LEFT MITTEN: Work as the right one until you come to the PATTERN:
    1st row: K 25 sts; p 2, cable, p 2, cable, p 2, k 5 sts.
    2nd row: P 5 sts; k 2, p 2, k 2, p 2, k 2, p 25 sts.
THUMB INCREASES: Work 18 sts; then start the thumb inc.
NOTE: Keep the cable going until you come to the tip of the mitten regardless of what you are doing.
