Materials: Chadwick's Red Heart Shetland Floss, 8 balls (1 oz. balls).
Milward's Casein knitting pins, 1 pair No. 3 (3 mm. size).

Gauge: 7 sts make 1 inch; 11 rows make 1 inch.

Back. Starting at bottom, cast on 193 sts. 1st row: K 1, p 1, * k 4, p l, k l, p l. Repeat from * across, ending row with k 1, p 1. 2nd row: P across. Repeat these 2 rows alternately, decreasing 1 st at both ends of every 4th row until 161 sts remain. Then work in pattern, decreasing 1 st at both ends of every 3rd row until 91 sts remain. Work straight until piece measures 16½ inches (waistline). Then inc. 1 st at both ends of every 6th row until there are 105 sts on needle. Work straight until piece measures 2½ inches.

To Shape Armholes: Bind off 7 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows. Then dec. 1 st at end of each row until 77 sts remain. Work straight until piece measures 5¾ inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. To shape shoulders, bind off 3 sts at beginning of each row until 35 sts remain. Bind off these 35 sts for back of neck.

Front. Starting at bottom, cast on 193 sts. Work in pattern, decreasing 1 st at both ends of every 5th row until 167 sts remain. Then continuing in pattern, dec. 1 st at both ends of every 4th row until 133 sts remain. Thereafter, dec. 1 st at both ends of every 3rd row until 101 sts remain. Work straight until piece measures 16½ inches (waistline). Then inc. 1 st at both ends of every 4th row until there are 113 sts on needle. Work straight until piece measures 2½ inches.

To Shape Armholes: Bind off 8 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows. Then dec. 1 st at end of each row until 81 sts remain. On next row, work across 1st 21 sts, bind off 39 sts (center front), and continue across remaining 21 sts. Hereafter work over these 21 sts until piece measures 5¾ inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. Shape shoulder as before until all sts are worked off. Attach yarn to other side of center front and work to correspond. Sew up side and shoulder seams. Work a row of s c around armholes and neck edge.
