MATERIAL:
4 (4-5) skeins Knitting Worsted or Orion Sayelle (4 oz. skein)
1 pair knitting needles each No. 5 and No. 7 or any size needles which will give stitch gauge given below
1 crochet hook No. 6 or G
2 stitch holders 7 (8-8) buttons Grosgrain ribbon to line belt
GAUGE: 11 sts. = 2 inch.
BACK:
Cast on 99 (105-111) sts. with No. 5 needles and work in ribbing K3, P3 for 6 (6½-7) inch. Change to No. 7 needles and pattern:
1st row: K33 (36-39), keep next 33 sts. in ribbing P3, K3, K33 (36-39).
2nd row: P33 (36-39), keep next 33 sts. in ribbing K3, P3, P33 (36-39).
Repeat these 2 rows until piece measures 14½ (15½-16) inch. or any des. length to underarm. Bind off for armhole at the beg. of the next 2 rows 6 (7-8) sts., at the beg. of the next 4 rows 2 sts. (all sizes). Decr. 1 st. at each end of needle every other row until 75 (79-83) sts. are left. Work even for 8 (8½-9) inch. from the first binding off. Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 6 (4-8) rows 8 (13-7) sts., rem. 27 sts. (all sizes) bind off for neck.
LEFT FRONT:
Cast on 57 (60-63) sts. with No. 5 needles and work in ribbing K3, P3 for 6 (6½-7) inch., keeping the 6 center front sts. in garter st. for border throughout the entire front. Change to No. 7 needles and pattern:
1st row: K15 (16-17), P3, K3, P3, K3, P3, K3, P3, K15 (17-19), K6.
2nd row: K6, P15 (17-19), K3, P3, K3, P3, K3, P3, K3, P15 (16-17).
Cont. to repeat these 2 rows for pattern. With 57 (60-63) sts. work even until piece measures 2 inch. less than back to underarm. Decr. for neck 1 st. at center edge every 3rd and 4th row alternately inside the 6 border sts. 17 times (all sizes) and at the same time when piece measures as long as back to underarm bind off at armhole edge 6 (7-8) sts. and at the beg. of the next 2 rows at same edge 2 sts. (all sizes). Rem. 24 (26-28) sts. and 6 border sts. work as high as back and bind off for shoulder at armhole edge 8 (13-7) sts. 3 (2-4) times. Rem. 6 border sts. work in garter st. for 2¼ (2½-2½) inch. Slip sts. to a holder.
RIGHT FRONT:
Work as Left Front reversing all shapings and work in 5 (6-6) buttonholes evenly spaced apart, placing first buttonhole 1 inch from beg. and last one 2 rows below V neck shaping. (To make a buttonhole: K2, bind off 2 sts., K2. On next row cast on 2 sts. over the 2 bound off sts. of previous row.)
POCKET: (Make 2)
Cast on 23 sts. with No. 7 needles and work in stock. st. for 4½ (5-5½) inch. ending with a K row. Reverse stock. st. for flap (K on P side) and decr. 1 st. at each end of every K row until 3 sts. are left. Bind off. With No. 6 crochet hook work 1 row s.c. around the 4 sides and flap of the pocket, working 3 s.c. in each corner st.
BELT:
Cast on 3 sts. with No. 7 needles and work in stock. st. for 52 (54-56) inch. or any des. length. Bind off. With No. 6 crochet hook work 1 row s.c. around the entire belt and line with grosgrain ribbon.
FINISHING:
Sew up shoulder seams. Weave neckbands tog. in center of back and sew border to back of neck. Armband: Right side facing you pick up with No. 5 needles 81 (87-93) sts. around the armhole and work in ribbing K3, P3 for 6 rows. Bind off loosely K as K and P as P. Work the other armband to correspond. Sew pockets and buttons in place as shown in picture. Block to size.
