MATERIAL:
3 (4-4) skeins Knitting Worsted or Orion Sayelle
(4 oz. skein) 1 pair knitting needles each No. 5 and No. 7
1 crochet hook No. 5
5 (5-6) buttons

GAUGE: 5 sts. = 1 inch

BACK:
   Cast on 84 (88-92) sts. with No. 7 needles and work in stock. st. for 1 inch. Decr. 1 st. at each end of needle every 4th row until piece measures 5 inch. (all sizes). Change to No. 5 needles and work K1, P1 for 2 inch. Change back to No. 7 needles and incr. 1 st. at the beg., and end of the knit row every ½ inch until 84 (88-92) sts. are on needle. Work even until the entire piece measures 14 (15-16) inch. or any des. length to under­arm. Cast on for armhole facing at the beg. of the next 2 rows 6 sts. 1st row: K5, slip 1 (yarn in back of work), work to last 6 sts., slip 1 (yarn in back of work), K5. 2nd row: P back. Repeat these 2 rows throughout the armhole and at the same time decr. 1 st. on each end inside the slip sts. every K row 10 (10-11) times. Work even until armhole measures 7½ (8-8½) inch. (76 (80-82) sts. left). Bind off for shoulders at the beg. of the next 4 (6-4) rows 11 (8-13) sts. Rem. 32 (32-30) sts. bind off.

LEFT FRONT:
   Cast on 51 (53-55) sts. with No. 7 needles and work in stock. st. for 1 inch, keeping the 7 center front sts. in seed st. for buttonhole border throughout the entire front. Decr. 1 st. at armhole edge every 4th row as on back until piece measures 5 inch. Change to No. 5 needles and work K1, P1 for 2 inch. Change back to No. 7 needles and incr. 1 st. at armhole edge every ½ inch until 53 (55-57) sts. are on needle. Work even until the entire piece measures like back to underarm and at the same time 2 inch. below armhole work 1 more st. in seed st. from stock. st. part at center edge until 27 (27-26) sts., incl. 7 border sts. are worked in seed st. for lapel. Cast on for armhole facing at the beg. of the next row 6 sts. and work as back decr. 1 st. 10 (10-11) times inside the slip st. at armhole edge. Work as high as back and bind off for shoulder at armhole edge 11 (8-13) sts. 2 (3-2) times. Rem. 27 (27-26) sts. bind off for lapel.

RIGHT FRONT:
   Work as Left Front reversing all shapings, and work in 5 (5-6) buttonholes evenly spaced apart in front border placing first buttonhole ½ inch from beg. and placing last one at beg. of lapel shaping.

FINISHING:
   Sew up side and shoulder seams. Turn armhole facing to wrong side and sew down. Work 2 rows s.c. around bottom of vest and 1 row around the neck and lapels. Sew buttons in place and block to size.
