Sizes 1—2 and 3 Yrs.

MATERIALS:
1 Pr. Size 7 Standard Knitting Needles
1 Pr. Size 10 Standard Knitting Needles
Size 0 Steel Crochet Hook
1 and 2 yr.—3 4-oz. Skeins 4-ply Knitting Worsted
3 yr.—3½ 4-oz. Skeins 4-ply Knitting Worsted
(Italian Mohair may be substituted for Knitting Worsted)

GAUGE: 4 sts to 1 in.

Starting at neck edge with size 10 needles cast on 40 sts (2 yr. 46 sts—3 yr. 54 sts).
Row 1 (right side): P 1, K 1, over first 5 sts, K 30 (2 yr. 36—3 yr. 44), P 1, K 1, over remaining 5 sts.
Row 2 and all even rows—P 1, K 1, over first 5 sts; P 30 (2 yr. 36—3 yr. 44); P 1, K 1, over remaining 5 sts (the first and last 5 sts are worked in seed st as given to lower edge of coat for front border).
Row 3—P 1, K 1, over 5 sts, K 3 (2 yr. K 4—3 yr, K 6) (left front); inc. 1 st in each of next 2 sts by knitting in front and back of same st (raglan seam); K 2 (2 yr. K 3—3 yr. K 4) (sleeve sts); inc. 1 st in each of next 2 sts (2nd raglan seam); K 12 (2 yr. K 14—3 yr. K 16) (back); inc. 1 st in each of next 2 sts (3rd rag­lan seam); K 2 (2 yr. K 3—3 yr. K 4) (sleeve sts); inc. 1 st in each of next 2 sts (4th raglan seam); K 3 (2 yr. K 4—3 yr. K 6); P 1, K 1, over remaining 5 sts for right front.
Row 5—P 1, K 1, over first 5 sts, K 4 (2 yr. K 5—3 yr. K 7); inc. 1 st in each of next 2 sts; K 4 (2 yr. K 5—3 yr. K 6); inc. 1 st in each of next 2 sts; K 14 (2 yr. K 16—3 yr. K 18); inc. 1 st in each of next 2 sts; K 4 (2 yr. K 5—3 yr. K 6); inc. 1 st in each of next 2 sts; K 4 (2 yr. K 5—3 yr. K 7); P 1, K 1, over remaining 5 sts.
Continue increasing 2 sts in each raglan seam as given, having 1 more st in each front; 2 more in each sleeve and 2 more in the back, every other row, working a P row in between until there are 17 increased rows in all (2 yr. 19 inc rows—3 yr. 21 inc. rows), ending with a P row. There should be 176 sts on the needle for the 1 yr. size; 198 sts for the 2 yr. size and 222 sts for the 3 yr. size.

SLEEVES: Starting on right side, separate the first sleeve from remainder of garment as follows: Work over 26 sts (2 yr. 29 sts—3 yr. 33 sts); place on st-holder for left front. K next 38 sts (2 yr. 43 sts—3 yr. 48 sts) for the left sleeve; place remaining sts on 2nd st-holder.
Work back and forth in stockinette st decreasing 1 st at each end every 6th row 3 times. Work even until sleeve measures 6 in. (2 yr. 6½ in.—3 yr. 7 in.) or desired length to cuff, ending, with a K row. P 1 row decreasing to 28 sts (2 yr. 30 sts—3 yr. 34 sts). Change to size 7 needles and work in seed st for 11 rows.
Bind off.
Join yarn at 2nd raglan seam. Place sts from 2nd st-holder to needle and work across the 48 sts of back (2 yr. 54 sts—3 yr. 60 sts). Place these sts back on st-holder; work across next 38 sleeve sts (2 yr. 43 sts—3 yr. 48 sts); place remaining sts for right front on 3rd st-holder. Work right sleeve as given for left. Join yarn at 4th raglan seam; place sts of right front from 3rd st-holder to needle and work to front edge. Work back across sts of right front; place sts of back from st-holder to needle and work across them; place sts of left front from st-holder to needle and work across them (there should be 100 sts on the needle for the 1 yr. size; 112 for the 2 yr. size and 126 for the 3 yr. size).
Work 2 rows even then start increases at under­arm for the gusset as follows (right side); work over 25 sts (2 yr. 28 sts—3 yr. 32 sts); inc. 1 st in each of next 2 sts; K 46 (2 yr. 52—3 yr. 58); inc. 1 st in each of next 2 sts; work over remaining sts.
P 1 row, K 1 row, P 1 row, then work across 25 (2 yr. 28 sts—3 yr. 32 sts); Inc. 1 st in next st; K 2, inc. 1 st in next st; K 46—2 yr. 52—3 yr. 58); inc. 1 st in next st; K 2, inc. 1 st in next st; work across row.
Work 3 rows even.
Work across 25 sts (2 yr. 28 sts—3 yr. 32 sts); inc. 1 st in next st; K 4, inc. 1 st in next st; K 46 (2 yr. 52—3 yr. 58); inc. 1 st in next st; K 4; inc. 1 st in next st; work across row.
Work 3 rows even.
Continue increasing 2 sts at each underarm for underarm gussets as given, having 2 more sts between increases every 4th row until there are 6 increased rows (2 yr. 8 inc. rows—3 yr. 10 inc. rows). P 1 row, K 1 row, P 1 row, then work border as follows: Work 2 rows of seed st; 3 rows of stockinette st (2 yr. 5 rows—3 yr. 7 rows); work 3 rows of seed st; 5 rows of stockinette st (2 yr. 7 rows—3 yr. 9 rows); ending with 8 rows of seed st. Bind off loosely.
If more length is desired, add to the stockinette st rows between the seed st rows.

FINISHING: Starting at lower edge of right front, work 1 row of s c to neck edge being sure to keep work flat. Work loops for button­holes as follows: 1 s c in first st, ch 1, skip 2 sts; work 1 s c in each of next 6 sts; ch 1, skip 2 sts; work 1 s c in each of next 6 sts; ch 1, skip 2 sts; work 1 s c in each s c to lower edge. Fasten off.
Starting at neck edge of left front, work 2 rows of s c across left front edge being sure to have the same number of sts as on right front edge. Fasten off. Sew sleeve seams.

COLLAR: With size 7 needles on wrong side of garment, pick up 52 sts (2 yr. 56 sts—3 yr. 60 sts) across neck edge. Work 12 rows of seed st (2 yr. 13 rows—3 yr. 14 rows). Bind off loosely.
