KNITTING NEEDLES: 1 pair "Boye" Needles, Size 10½—or size you require to knit to gauge given below.
GAUGE: Seed St—7 sts = 2 inches; 6 rows = 1 inch
Stockinette St—7 sts = 2 inches; 19 rows = 4 inches
Cast on 71 sts for lower edge.
Row 1—mark this row for right side—K 1, * p 1, k 1; repeat from * to end. Repeat this row for seed st until 7½ ins. from beg., end on wrong side.
CROWN—First dec. row—right side—K 8, * p 2 tog., k 8; repeat from *, end last repeat k 1 instead of k 8; 64 sts.
Next row—P 1, * k 1, p 8; repeat from * to end.
2nd dec. row—K 7, * p 2 tog., k 7; repeat from *, end last repeat k 1; 57 sts.
Next row—P 1, * k 1, p 7; repeat from * to end.
Continue in this way, decreasing 7 sts in next row and in every 2nd row 4 more times, having 1 st less at beg. and between decs, in each successive dec. row; always end last repeat on dec. row with k 1; 22 sts.
Break yarn, leaving a 20 in. end for sewing. Thread end of yarn into tapestry needle and run through sts on needle, slipping sts off. Block. Draw up sts at top tightly, run yarn through sts again and fasten. Sew side edges together.
