WASH CLOTH No. 7173-A (Left)
Use thread double throughout. Starting at one corner, with dark color cast on 3 sts. 1st and 2nd rows: K (knit) across. 3rd row: Inc. in 1st st, k across remaining sts, increasing in last st. 4th row: K across. 5th row: K 2, O (yarn over), k across to within last 2 sts, O, k 2. 6th row: K across. 7th and 8th rows: Repeat 5th and 6th rows. Break off, attach light color. 9th to 16th rows incl: Repeat 5th and 6th rows alternately. Break off, attach dark color. 17th to 24th rows incl: Repeat 5th and 6th rows alternately. The last 16 rows (8 ridges) constitute the pattern. Repeat these 8 ridges until there are 93 sts on needle (thus completing 6th dark stripe). Break off, attach light color, and work 2 more ridges (97 sts). Then work as follows: 1st row: K 1, k 2 tog. (together), O, k 2 tog. (a decrease); k across to within last 5 sts, k 2 tog. (another decrease); O, k 2 tog., k 1. 2nd row: K across. Repeat these 2 rows alternately (thus decreasing 1 st at both ends of every other row) until 9 sts remain, taking care to change color after every 4th ridge. Next row: K 1, k 2 tog., O, k 3 tog., O, k 2 tog., k 1. Following row: K across. Next row: K 1, k 2 tog., k 1, k 2 tog., k 1. Following row: K 2 tog., k 1, k 2 tog. Then k 1 row, and bind off. Fasten all ends securely.
EDGING … Attach light color to any one ridge at outer edge, ch 6, sl st in 3rd ch from hook (a p made); d c in same ridge where ch-6 started. * Skip 1 ridge; in next ridge make d c, ch-3 p, d c. Repeat from * around. Fasten and break off.
WASH CLOTH No. 7173-B (Center)
Use thread double throughout. Starting at one corner, with dark color cast on 3 sts and work as for Wash Cloth 7173-A, changing colors in the following manner: 4 ridges of dark color, 2 ridges of light color, 2 dark, 2 light, 2 dark, 4 light, 4 dark, 4 light, 2 dark, 2 light, 2 dark, 8 light, 5 dark, 1 light (89 sts on needle). Then reverse the stripes by starting at 1 light ridge and working back to the first 4 dark ridges, decreasing 1 st at both ends of every other row as for Wash Cloth 7173-A. Break off. Fasten all ends securely.
EDGING … Work exactly as for edging of Wash Cloth 7173-A.
WASH CLOTH No. 7173-C (Right)
Use thread double throughout. Starting at one corner, with dark color cast on 3 sts and work as for Wash Cloth 7173-A, changing colors as follows: 4 ridges of dark color, * 2 ridges of light color, 2 dark, 2 light, 4 dark. Repeat from * until there are 95 sts on needle. Then reverse the stripes by making another dark ridge and working back to the first 4 ridges, decreasing 1 st at both ends of every other row as for Wash Cloth 7173-A. Break off. Fasten all ends securely.
EDGING … Work exactly as for edging of Wash Cloth 7173-A.
