These directions are for Size 12. Changes for Sizes 14, 16 and 18 are in parentheses.
MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Columbia-Minerva Knitting Worsted (4 oz skein) - 4(5-5-6) skeins
Columbia-Minerva Calypso Germantown Knitting Worsted (2 or 4 oz skein) - 18(20-22-24) ozs
Knitting Needles: 1 pair each "Boye" Sizes 5 and 8 - 14 inch
Gauge: 4 ½ sts to 1 inch; 8 rows to 1 inch (Size 8 needles-garter st)
BACK: With Size 5 needles cast on 76(82-86-90) sts. Work in garter st for 2 inches. Change to Size 8 needles and continue in garter st. When work measures 10”(10”-10 ½”-10 ½”), or desired length from start, To Shape Armholes: Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every other row 4 times - 60(66-70-74) sts on needle. When armholes measure 7 ½”(8”-8”-8 ½”) measured straight from bound-off sts at underarm, To Shape Shoulders: Bind off 6(7-8-9) sts at beg of next 2(4-6-2) rows, then bind off 7(8-0-8) sts at beg of next 4(2-0-4) rows. Bind off rem 20(22-22-24) sts for back of neck.
LEFT FRONT: With Size 5 needles cast on 36(38-40-42) sts. Work in garter st for 2 inches. Change to Size 8 needles and continue in garter st. When work measures same as Back to underarm, To Shape Armhole: Bind off 4 sts at side edge, then dec 1 st at same edge every other row 4 times - 28(30-32-34) sts on needle. When front edge measures 15 ½”(16”-16 ½”-17”) from start, To Shape Neck: Bind off 4 sts at front edge, then dec 1 st at same edge every other row 4(4-4-5) times. When armhole measures same as at Back, To Shape Shoulder: Bind off 6(7-8-9) sts at armhole edge every other row 1(2-3-1) times, then bind off 7(8-0-8) sts at same edge every other row 2(1-0-2) times.
RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond with Left Front, reversing decs.
SLEEVES: With Size 5 needles cast on 38(40-42-44) sts. Work in garter st for 2 inches. Change to Size 8 needles and continue in garter st, inc'ing 1 st each side every 12th row 9 times - 56(58-60-62) sts on needle. When work measures 17”(17”-17 ½”-17 ½”), or desired length from start to underarm, To Shape Cap of Sleeve: Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every other row until 18(14-18-14) sts rem. Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 4(2-4-2) rows, then bind off rem sts.
Sew shoulder seams. Sew Sleeves in place. Sew underarm and sleeve seams.
LEFT FRONT BORDER: Starting at neck edge, with Size 8 needles pick up and K 70(72-74-76) sts at left front edge. Work in St St for 7 rows more, inc 1 st at beg of K rows 3 times. P 1 row on right side of work for turn of facing, then continue in St St for 7 rows, dec 1 st at beg of K rows 3 times. Bind off.
RIGHT FRONT BORDER: Starting at lower edge, with Size 8 needles pick up and K 70(72-74-76) sts at right front edge. Work as for Left Front Border, inc'ing at end of K rows and working 6 buttonholes on Rows 5 and 13 as follows: (Starting at lower edge) K 4(6-4-5), *bind off 3 sts, K 9(9-10-10), repeat from * 4 times more, bind off 3 sts, K to end of row. Next row cast on 3 sts over each set of bound-off sts.
NECK BORDER: Starting at right neck edge, with Size 8 needles pick up and K 52(54-54-56) sts around neck edge. Work as for Left Front Border, inc'ing 1 st each side on K rows 3 times and dec'ing 1 st each side on K rows in facing.
Sew corners of Borders at neck edge. Turn facings under and sew in place. Sew around buttonholes.
