MATERIALS REQUIRED:
Columbia-Minerva Skylark Sports Yarn (2 oz skein) - 7 (8-9-10) skeins
Knitting Needles: 1 pair each "Boye" Sizes 3 and 5 - 14 inch
Gauge: 5 ½ sts to 1 inch; 7 rows to 1 inch (St St - Size 5 needles)
1 "Boye" Steel Crochet Hook Size 2
BACK: With Size 5 needles cast on 92(98-104-110) sts. Work in St St for 9 rows, K 1 row on wrong side of work for turn of hem, inc'ing 1 st each side - 94(100-106-112) sts on needle. Continue in St St. When work measures 7 inches from turn of hem, inc 1 st each side, then inc 1 st each side every 3 inches 2 times more - 100(106-112-118) sts on needle. When work measures 15”(15 ½”-15 ½”-16”), or desired length from turn of hem, To Shape Armholes: Bind off 5 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every other row 4 times - 82(88-94-100) sts on needle. When armholes measure 8”(8”-8 ½”-8 ½”), measured straight from bound-off sts at underarm, To Shape Shoulders: Bind off 9(9-10-11) sts at beg of next 6(2-4-6) rows, then bind off 0(10-11-0) sts at beg of next 0(4-2-0) rows. Bind off rem 28(30-32-34) sts for back of neck.
LEFT FRONT: With Size 5 needles cast on 40(43-46-49) sts. Work hem same as on Back. K next row, inc'ing 1 st in first st and casting on 13 sts at end of row for front border and facing - 54(57-60-63) sts on needle. P next row, then continue in St St as follows: Row 1: K across to within last 7 sts, sl 1, K 6. Row 2: P. Repeat these 2 rows. When work measures 5 inches from turn of hem, inc 1 st at side edge, then inc 1 st at same edge every 8th row 7 times more - 62(65-68-71) sts on needle. When work measures same as Back to underarm, To Shape Armhole: Bind off 6 sts at side edge, then dec 1 st at same edge every other row 5 times - 51(54-57-60) sts on needle. When front edge measures 20”(20 ½”-21”-2 ½”) from cast-on sts of facing, To Shape Neck: Bind off 15(16-17-18) sts at front edge, then dec 1 st at same edge every row 5 times, then every other row 4 times. When armhole measures same as at Back, To Shape Shoulder: Bind off 9(9-10-11) sts at armhole edge every other row 3(1-2-3) times, then bind off 0(10-11-0) sts 0(2-1-0) times. Place markers for 7 buttons at front edge, having first marker ¾ inch from turn of hem and 7th marker 3 ¼ inches below neck edge.
RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond with Left Front, having incs, decs, front border and facing at opposite sides and working double buttonholes to correspond with markers as follows: (On right side of work) K 1, bind off 2 sts, K 3, sl 1, K 3, bind off 2 sts, K to end of row. On next row cast on 2 sts over each set of bound-off sts.
SLEEVES: With Size 5 needles cast on 46(50-52-56) sts. Work in St St for 9 rows. K 1 row on wrong side of work for turn of hem, inc'ing 1 st each side. Continue to work in St St, inc'ing 1 st each side every 4th row 6 times, then every 6th row 9 times 78(82-84-88) sts on needle. When work measures 12”(12 ½”-12 ½”-13”), or desired length from turn of hem to underarm, To Shape Cap of Sleeve: Bind off 6(6-6-7) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each side every other row until 28(34-30-32) sts rem. Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 4(6-4-4) rows. Bind off rem 16(16-18-20) sts.
COLLAR: With Size 3 needles cast on 140(140-146-146) sts. Row 1: (Right side of work) K 2, *P 1, K 2, repeat from * across row. Row 2: P 2, *K 1, P 2, repeat from * across row. Repeat these 2 rows for 1 inch, ending with Row 1. Next row work as follows: P 2, *K 1, P 2, inc 1 st in next st, P 2, repeat from * across row - 23(23-24-24) incs made - 163(163-170-170) sts on needle. Next row (right side of work) *K 2, P 2, K 2, P 1, repeat from * across, ending K 2. Next row: *P 2, K 1, P 2, K 2, repeat from * across, ending P 2. Repeat these 2 rows for 1 inch, ending on right side of work. Next inc'ing row work as follows: *P 2, inc 1 st in next st, P 2, K 2, repeat from * across, ending P 2 - 23(23-24-24) incs made - 186(186-194-194) sts on needle. Next row (right side of work) K 2, *P 2, K 2, repeat from * across row. Next row P 2, *K 2, P 2, repeat from * across row. Repeat these 2 rows for 1 inch. Change to Size 5 needles and work even for 1 inch, ending on right side of work. Next inc row *P 2, K 2, P 2, K 1, inc 1 st in next st, repeat from * across, ending P 2 23(23-24-24) incs made - 209(209-218-218) sts on needle. Next row *K 2, P 3, K 2, P 2, repeat from * across, ending K 2. Next row *P 2, K 2, P 2, K 3, repeat from * across, ending P 2. Repeat these 2 rows for 1 inch, ending on right side of work. Next inc row *P 2, K 1, inc 1 st in next st, P 2, K 3, repeat from * across row, ending P 2 - 23(23-24-24) incs made - 232(232-242-242) sts on needle. Next row K 2, *P 3, K 2, repeat from * across row. Next row P 2, *K 3, P 2, repeat from * across row. Repeat these 2 rows until Collar measures 7 inches from start. Bind off loosely in ribbing on wrong side of work.
TIES: (Make 2) With Size 5 needles cast on 8 sts. Work in St St for about 18 inches, bind off. Fold tie lengthwise and sew seam on wrong side to form tube. Turn right side out.
Sew shoulder seams. Sew Sleeves in place. Sew underarm and sleeve seams. Turn up hem at lower edge and at sleeve edges and sew in place. Turn under front facings and sew, sewing around buttonholes. Sew cast-on edge of Collar to neck edge, starting and ending 1 inch from front edges. Work 1 row of sl st at front edges of Collar. Sew 1 end of a tie to each side under Collar about 2 inches in from collar edges. Make 2 pompons and sew 1 to end of each tie.
TO MAKE BUTTONS: With Crochet Hook work over a plastic ring in sc, do not break yarn. Turn sts toward center of ring, place rhinestone button at center and sew button and button ring to garment.
