1 Bone Crochet Hook No. 6
1 Double-Pointed Needle (d.p.n.) No. 8
1 Zipper to Match, the required length for front
GAUGE: 4 sts = 1 in; 11 rows = 2 ins
Important: Accurate gauge is absolutely essential.
PATTERN: Garter, Stockinette and Cable St as described below.
BACK: With No. 10 needles, cast on 38 (42-46) sts. Work in pattern as follows: Row 1 (right side): K6 (8-9), P1, K6 (cable), P1, K10 (10-12), P1, K6 (cable), P1, K6 (8-9). Row 2 and all even rows: Knit the K sts and purl the P sts. Repeat Rows 1 and 2, twice. Row 7 (Cable Twist Row): K6 (8-9), P1, slip next 3 sts on d.p.n. and hold in back, knit next 3 sts, then knit the 3 sts from d.p.n., P1, K10 (10-12), P1, twist cable on next 6 sts, work to end in pattern. Repeat cable twist row on every 8th row thereafter (on right side of work). Work even until 7 (8-8½) ins from start or required length to armhole. Shape Armhole: Bind off 3 (4-4) sts at beg of next 2 rows, work 1 row even, then dec 1 st each end of next row (30 (32-36) sts). Work even until armhole is 4½ (5-5½) ins. Shape Shoulder: Bind off 5 sts at beg of next 2 (2-4) rows.
For Sizes 2 and 4 Only: Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows. Bind off remaining 12 (14-16) sts for back of neck.
LEFT FRONT: Cast on 23 (25-27) sts. Keeping 3 sts at front edge (end of knit rows) in Garter St, work in Pattern as follows: Starting at underarm edge, K6 (8-10), P1, K6 (cable) P1, K9. Row 2: K3 (front border), purl the P sts and knit the K sts. Keeping 3 sts at front edge in Garter St, work even in pattern to armhole. Shape Armhole: Bind off 4 sts at beg of armhole edge, then dec 1 st at same edge every other row twice (17 (19-21) sts). Work even until armhole is 3 (3½-4) ins. Shape Neck: At beg of neck edge, bind off 5 (5-6) sts once, 2 sts 1 (2-2) times, then dec 1 st at same edge once. Work even until armhole is same as back. Shape Shoulder: At beg of armhole edge, bind off 5 sts 1 (1-2) times.
For Sizes 2 and 4 Only: Bind off 4 sts once.
RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond with Left Front, reversing shaping.
SLEEVE: Cast on 24 (24-28) sts and work in ribbing of K2, P2 for 2 (2½-2½) ins. Change to stockinette st, inc 1 st each end every 4 rows 4 (5-5) times (32 (34-38) sts). Work even until 9 (10-11) ins from start or required length to underarm. Bind off 3 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each end of every 4 rows 4 (4-5) times, then dec 1 st each end of every row until 10 sts remain on needle. Bind off.
ASSEMBLING AND FINISHING: Seam shoulders, underarms and sleeves. Sew in sleeves.
Neckband: On right side, pick up and knit about 40 (42- 44) sts around neck edge and work in Garter St (knit every row) for ¾ in. Bind off.
CABLE TRIM: (make 2): With CC and crochet hook, make a ch the same length as front cable. Draw ch through cable as illustrated, fastening on wrong side. Neck Trim: With CC, make a ch required length for neck. Sew ch at base of neckband as illustrated. Sew zipper in place.
