MATERIALS: SPINNERIN Moth-Proofed WHIRL-KNIT 8 (9-10-11-11) 2-oz. Skeins
1 Pr each Knitting Needles Nos. 8 and 10
1 Bone Crochet Hook No. 6
1½ yds. 1-in. Velvet Ribbon
2 Hooks and Eyes

GAUGE: 3½ sts = 1 in; 11 rows = 2 ins.
Important: Accurate gauge is absolutely essential.

PATTERN: Ribbing of K1, P1 and Stockinette St (Purl side is right side).

BACK: Cast on 52 (56-60-64-68) sts and knit 2 rows. Change to stockinette st, dec 1 st each end of needle every 4 rows 7 (7-7-8-8) times (38 (42-46-48-52) sts). Work even until 6 (6-6-6½-6½) ins from start. Work in rib­bing of K1, P1 for 1½ ins (Center of ribbing is point of waistline). Change to stockinette st, inc 1 st each end of every 6 rows 8 (8-8-9-9) times (54 (58-62-66-70) sts). Work even until 15 (15-15-15½-15½) ins from start or required length to armhole. Shape Armhole: Bind off 3 (3-3-4-4) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each end of every knit row 3 (3-3-3-4) times (42 (46-50-52-54) sts). Work even until armhole is 7½ (7¾-7¾-8-8¼) ins. Shape Shoulder: Bind off 4 (7-5-4-4) sts at beg of 6 (4-6-8-8) rows. Bind off remaining 18 (18-20-20-22) sts for back of neck.

LEFT FRONT: Cast on 39 (42-44-46-48) sts and knit 2 rows. Change to stockinette st keeping front edge (end of purl rows) even, dec at underarm edge (beg of purl rows) same as for back (32 (35-37-38-40) sts). Work even to beg of ribbing, then work in ribbing for 1½ ins. Change to stockinette st, inc 1 st at underarm edge every 4 rows 8 (8-8-9-9) times (40 (43-45-47-49) sts. Work even to underarm. Shape Armhole: At beg of armhole edge, bind off 4 sts once, 2 sts once, then dec 1 st every other row 3 (4-4-4-4) times. Keeping armhole edge even, Shape Neck: Dec 1 st at neck edge every 3 rows 10 (10-12-12-12) times. At Same Time, when working 1st neck dec, start Rib Pattern as follows: On right side of work, knit center st. Row 2: Purl center st. Row 3: Purl to within 3 sts of center st, then K1, P1, K1, (center), P1, K1, purl to end of row. Row 4 and all even rows, knit the K sts and purl the P sts. Continue to work in this manner, always work­ing 1 more rib pattern each side of center rib on every other row (right side of work) until all sts are worked in ribbing. Continue to dec at neck edge, dec 1 st every other row 6 (6-5-6-8) times. When armhole is same as back, Shape Shoulder: Bind off 5 (5-6-6-6) sts at beg of armhole edge 3 (2-3-2-2) times. For Sizes 36, 40 and 42 Only: Bind off 7 sts at armhole edge once.

RIGHT FRONT: Work to correspond with Left Front, reversing shaping.

SLEEVE: With No. 8 needles, cast on 28 (30-30-32-32) sts and work in ribbing for 3 ins. Change to No. 10 needles and stockinette st, inc 1 st each end of every 8 (8-8-8-6) rows 8 (8-9-9-11) times (44 (46-48-50-54) sts). Work even until 17½ (18-18-18½-18½) ins from start or required length to underarm. Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each end of every 3 rows 7 (7-7-8-8) times, then dec each end of every other row until 18 (20-22-24-24) sts remain on needle. Now, dec 1 st each end of every row until 14 (14-14-16-16) sts are on needle. Bind off.

ASSEMBLING AND FINISHING: Seam shoulders, underarms and sleeves. Sew in sleeves. On right side, work 1 row of SC around center front and neck edge, easing in neck. Sew ribbon in place on right side of cardigan. Sew hooks and eyes at waist.
