MATERIALS: SPINNERIN Moth-Proofed WHIRL-KNIT 7 (8-9-9) 2-oz. Skeins
1 Pr. Knitting Needles No. 10
1 Bone Crochet Hook No. 6
4 "Pin-On" "Swivel" Buttons
GAUGE: 3½ sts = 1 in; 11 rows = 2 ins
Important: Accurate gauge is absolutely essential.
PATTERN: Row 1: K1, P1 across.
Row 2: P1, K1 across.
Row 3: K2, P2 across.
Row 4: P2, K2 across.
Repeat these 4 rows for pattern.
BACK: Cast on 40 (44-48-52) sts and work even in pattern for 2½ (2½-3-3) ins. Inc 1 st each end of next row, then being careful to keep to pattern, repeat inc every in 4 (5-5-5) times more (50 (56-60-64) sts). Work even until 10 (10½-10½-11) ins from start or required length to armhole. Shape Armhole: Bind off 3 (4-4-4) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each end of every other row 2 (3-3-4) times (40 (42-46-48) sts). Work even until armhole is 7 (7½-7½-7¾) ins. Shape Shoulder: Bind off 6 (6-7-5) sts at beg of next 4 (4-4-6) rows. Bind off remaining 16 (18-18-18) sts for back of neck.
FRONT: Both fronts may be worked at same time, using 2 balls of yarn. Following are instructions for each front. Cast on 22 (24-26-28) sts and work even for 2½ (2½-3-3) ins. Keeping front edge even, inc at underarm edge same as for back (27 (30-32-34) sts). Work even to armhole. Shape Armhole: At beg of armhole edge, bind off 4 sts once, then dec 1 st every other row 3 times. Work even until armhole is 5 (5½-5½-5¾) ins. Shape Neck: At beg of neck edge, bind off 4 (5-5-6) sts once, 2 sts 2 (3-3-3) times. Work even until armhole is same as back. Shape Shoulder: At beg of armhole edge, bind off 6 (6-7-5) sts 2 (2-2-3) times.
SLEEVE: Cast on 34 (36-36-38) sts and work in pattern, inc 1 st each end of every 1½ (1½-1-1) in 3 (3-4-4) times (40 (42-44-46) sts). Work even until 5 (5-5½-5½) ins from start or required length to underarm. Bind off 3 (3-4-4) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then dec 1 st each end of every other row until armhole is 4 (4-4½-4½) ins. Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 4 rows. Bind off remaining sts.
POCKET FLAP: Make 2. Cast on 12 sts and work even in pattern for 8 rows. Bind off.
ASSEMBLING AND FINISHING: Seam shoulders, underarms and sleeves. Sew in sleeves. On right side, work 1 row of SC around entire outside edge of jacket and each pocket flap, working 2 SC in each corner and easing in neck. Sew pocket flaps to front (see illustration) and pin a button at each end of each flap.
