MATERIALS
BERNAT SESAME (Germantown Weight) (2 oz. pull pouches) — 1 each Main Color (M C) and Contrasting Color (C C)
1 pair BERNAT-Aero straight knitting needles No. 8 (Canadian Needles No. 6)
OR ANY SIZE NEEDLES THAT WILL GIVE THE STITCH GAUGE GIVEN BELOW
1 BERNAT-Aero crochet hook Size F (Canadian Wool Crochet Hook No. 10)

GAUGE: 6 sts = 1 inch; 7 rows = 1 inch

PATTERN STITCH

Row 1: Knit.

Row 2: * K 1, P 1, repeat from * across row.

Repeat these 2 rows for pattern stitch.

Starting at back, using M C, cast on 22 sts. Work in pattern st, inc 1 st each end of needle every 10th row twice, forming new patterns as sts are increased. Work even on 26 sts for 10 rows. At the beg of each of the next 2 rows cast on 31 sts. Work even in pattern st on 88 sts until piece measures 4½ inches above last group of cast on sts. Bind off.

FINISHING: Sew cast on sts to shaped edges. NECK­BAND: With right side facing you and using M C, pick up 56 sts across lower edge of cap. K 1, P 1 in ribbing for ¾ inch. BEADING: * K 1, P 1, y o, K 2 tog, repeat from * across row. Continue in ribbing until neckband measures 1½ inches. Bind off. LOOP STITCH: Row 1: Using C C double, with right side facing you, work 56 s c across front of cap. Row 2: Ch 1, turn, * insert needle in next st, y o hook and draw through this st, y o and draw through 1 loop on hook, holding third finger of left-hand in back of work OVER YARN, insert hook in same st, y o hook and pull through st, y o hook and pull through sts, y o hook and pull through 3 loops on hook, remove finger, repeat from * across row. Row 3: Ch 1, turn, 1 s c in each st. Repeat the last 2 rows twice more. Fasten off. Using M C double, make a ch 36 inches long. Run ch through beading. Using C C, make 2 small pompons and sew to ends of ch.
