MATERIALS
BERNAT BERELLA GERMANTOWN (2 oz. balls) —2
1 pair BERNAT-Aero straight knitting needles No. 9 (Canadian Needles No. 5)
OR ANY SIZE NEEDLES THAT WILL GIVE THE STITCH GAUGE GIVEN BELOW
1 BERNAT-Aero crochet hook Size J (Canadian Wool Crochet Hook No. 6)

GAUGE: 7 sts = 2 inches; 9 rows = 2 inches

Cast on 68 sts. K 1, P 1 in ribbing for 8 inches. SHAPE TOP: Row 1: * K 2 tog, P 2 tog, repeat from * across row. Rows 2, 3 and 4: Work even in ribbing. Row 5: Repeat Row 1. Row 6: Work even in ribbing. Row 7: Repeat Row 1, ending K 1. Break off yarn, leaving a 12 inch end.

FINISHING:Pull end through remaining 9 sts and draw up tightly. Sew back seam. Using a double strand of yarn, work 1 sl st, in each K rib. Steam. Make a pompon and sew to center of cap.
