Milward's Casein knitting pins, 1 pair No. 6 (4¼ mm. size) and 1 pair No. 9 (5¼ mm. size).
Measurements: Length from top of shoulder—23½ inches.
Gauge: 4 sts make 1 inch; 6 rows make 1 inch.
Front. Starting at bottom with No. 6 needles, cast on 78 sts and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 3½ inches, increasing 7 sts in the last row, at equal distances apart (85 sts). Then work as follows: 1st row: K 3, * p 1, k 3. Repeat from * across, ending row with p 1, k 1. 2nd row: K 2, * p 2, k 2. Repeat from * across, ending row with p 2, k 1. 3rd row: K l, p 1, k 1, * p 3, k l. Repeat from * across, ending row with p 1, k 1. 4th row: K 2, * p 3, k 1. Repeat from * across, ending row with p 2, k 1. 5th row: K 3, * p 2, k 2. Repeat from * across, ending row with p 1, k 1. 6th row: K 2, * p 1, k 3. Repeat from * across, ending row with p 1, k 2. Repeat from * across to within last 12 sts, then k 2, p 1, k 9. 5th row: K 10, * p 1, k 3. Repeat from * across, to within 11 sts, then p 1, k 10. 6th row: K 11, * p 1, k 3. To Shape Armholes: Bind off 5 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows, keeping the 6 sts at both ends in garter st. Then dec. 1 st (inside border) at end of each row 6 times. Work 5 rows straight. Hereafter work as follows: 1st row: K 6, (p 3, k 1) 5 times, p 1, k 15, (p 3, k 1) 5 times, p 1, k 6. 2nd row: K 6, p 2 tog., p 1, (k 2, p 2) 4 times, k 18, (p 2, k 2) 4 times, p 2, k 2 tog., k 6. 3rd row: K 6, (k 3, p 1) 4 times, k 23, (p 1, k 3) 4 times, k 6. 4th row: K 6, k 2 tog., k 2, (p 1, k 3) 4 times, k 16, (p 1, k 3) 4 times, p 1, k 2 tog., k 6. 5th row: K 6, (k 2, p 2) 4 times, k 20, (k 2, p 2) 4 times, k 7. 6th row: K 6, p 2 tog., (k 1, p 3) 3 times, k 1, p 2, k 19, p 2, (k 1, p 3) 3 times, k 1, p 2 tog., k 6. Hereafter work over these 27 sts, decreasing 1 st at neck edge (inside border) every other row until 21 sts remain. Work straight until piece measures 9 inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. To shape shoulder, starting at armhole edge, bind off 5 sts every other row 3 times. Work over remaining 6 sts in garter st for 2½ inches. Bind off. Attach yarn at opposite side of neck edge and work to correspond.
Back. Work exactly as for Front to shoulder shaping, omitting neck opening. To shape shoulders, bind off 5 sts at beginning of each of next 6 rows. Bind off remaining sts. Sew up underarm and shoulder seams. Sew strips across neck edge of Back.
