Lining for Pocket: It is wise to have this made, ready to be worked into the Front. Cast on 29 sts. 1st row: K 6, P 2, k 1, p 2, k 7, P 2, k 1, P 2, k 6. 2nd row: P 6, k 2, p 1, k 2, p 7, k 2, p 1, k 2, p 6. Repeat these 2 rows alternately for 3½ inches, ending with the 1st row. Repeat these two rows alternately, keeping the 10 sts at front edge in garter st (k 10 sts) until piece measures 3½ inches, ending with the 2nd row. Next row: Starting at front edge, k 10, p 2, k 7, p 2, k 1, p 2, k 1, k 6, p 2, k 1, p 2, k 7, p 2, k 1, p 2, k 6, turn. Transfer the last 29 sts worked, onto a stitch holder. Turn and work over remaining 30 sts as follows: K 1, p 2, k 1, p 2, (k 7, p 2, k 1, p 2) twice. Following row: Work in pattern across 1st 30 sts, then, work in pattern across the 29 sts of pocket lining, and across remaining 25 sts. Hereafter work straight until piece measures 15 inches. Then dec. 1 st (inside border) at front edge on next row and every 3rd row thereafter. At the same time when piece measures 16 inches, shape armhole as follows: starting at armhole edge, bind off 10 sts. Then, dec. 1 st at armhole edge every other row 5 times in all. Hereafter keeping armhole edge straight, continue with decreases at front edge until 42 sts remain. Work straight until piece measures 8 inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. To shape shoulder, starting at armhole edge, bind off 8 sts every other row 4 times. Continue in garter st over the remaining 10 sts for 2½ inches. Bind off. Transfer the sts on stitch holder onto No. 3 needles and work in garter st for 1 inch.
Left Front. Work exactly as for Right Front, reversing shapings and making a buttonhole 3 sts in from front edge after the 1st 2 inches and every 3 inches thereafter, until 5 buttonholes are made. (To make a buttonhole, on one row bind off 3 sts; then, on next row, cast on 3 sts to replace those bound off).
Sleeves. Starting at bottom, cast on 55 sts and work in ribbing of k 1, p 1, for 3 inches. Then work in pattern increasing 1 st at both ends of every 6th row until there are 105 sts on needle. Work straight until piece measures 18 inches. To shape top of sleeve, bind off 6 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows, and 2 sts at the beginning of each row thereafter until 31 sts remain. Bind off.
