SIZE 16

MATERIALS: Chadwick's Red Heart Shetland Floss, 7 balls (1 oz. balls).
Milward's Phantom Knitting Pins, 1 pair No. 2 (2¾ mm. size) and 1 pair No. 5 (4 mm. size).

MEASUREMENTS AFTER BLOCKING: Bust—35½ inches. Length from top of shoulder—20 inches. Length of sleeve, underarm seam—4½ inches.

GAUGE: (Pattern) 6 sts make 1 inch; 8 rows make 1 inch.

BACK. Starting at bottom, with No. 2 needles cast on 112 sts and work in ribbing of k 2, p 3, for 3½ inches (k 2 rib is right side of work). Change to No. 5 needles and, with right side of work toward you, work in pattern as follows: 1st row: K across. 2nd row: P across. 3rd row: K 2, * O; k 3, pass the 1st of these 3 sts over the other 2 sts. Repeat from * across. 4th row: P across. These 4 rows constitute the pattern. Work in pattern until piece measures 12 inches in all.

TO SHAPE ARMHOLES: Bind off 6 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows. Then dec. 1 st at end of each row until 76 sts remain. Work straight until piece measures 5¾ inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. On next row, with right side of work toward you, work in pattern across 1st 17 sts, (k 2, p 3) 8 times, k 2, work in pattern across remaining 17 sts. Continue working in this manner, keeping center 42 sts in ribbing, until piece measures 7 inches from 1st row of armhole shaping. Bind off loosely.

FRONT. Work exactly as for Back.

SLEEVE. Starting at bottom, with No. 2 needles cast on 67 sts and work in ribbing for 1 inch. Change to No. 5 needles and work in pattern, increasing 1 st at both ends of next row and every 4th row thereafter until there are 75 sts on needle. Work straight until piece measures 4¼ inches in all. To shape top of sleeve, bind off 3 sts at beginning of each of next 2 rows. Then dec. 1 st at end of each row until 59 sts remain. Work straight until piece measures 5½ inches from 1st row of sleeve shaping. Then dec. 1 st at both ends of each row until 35 sts remain. Bind off. Sew up shoulder seams, from armhole edge to ribbing. Sew up underarm seams. Sew up sleeve seams and sew sleeves in, easing in the fullness across center 3 inches at top of shoulder.
